GPS Position jumps all over
I have a stock xv6900, no custom roms. I have installed the Valhalla GPS cab with no problems and I have installed TomTom Nav6 as well as IGo8. The both work, but my GPS position jumps all over the place from Greenland, San Juan to Alaska. I am getting plenty of satellite coverage and WinMiniGPS shows that it is locked at my home coordiantes. I have even tried GPSGate to forward the GPS to the correct port and everything there seems to work fine, but my position never locks and keeps jumping all over. I have searched the forums, but have not gotten the correct answers to my problem. Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Re: GPS Position jumps all over
Thanks Steve, I have tried the changing the input on GPSGate to WMGPS and then put the output to Com Port 4, and Virtural Com Port 1&3, neither way works right. My GPS position still jumps all over. I can't figure out why WinMiniGPS shows my correct position, but when I start TomTom or IGo8, the position jumps all over.

Re: GPS Position jumps all over
I'm using iGuidance 3. Here's what I did:
1. Set GPSGate (2.6) input to WM GPS 2. Set GPSGate output to Virtual COM2 / (All NMEA) NMEA Filter 3. Configure iGuidance to use COM2 as GPS input with 4800 baud rate You might try similar settings on TomTom or IGo8. Good luck. |
Re: GPS Position jumps all over
I tried what you said, and now I can't get my GPS to pick up even one satellite. I have tried just about everything I can think of to get it back working, but nothing seems to work. GpsGate just says GPS data but no position and the icon stays yellow, it never turns grenn like it used too.

Re: GPS Position jumps all over
Stevens...Wow this solved my GPS problem. I could not get copilot live 7 to recognize the vahalla gps server. Everything else worked except my copilot program. With this GPSgate program it works now!
Thanks!!! |

Re: GPS Position jumps all over
Stevens,
I couldn't get the GPS to work at all. I ended up just re-flashing with the official verizon update to win6.1. My GPS is working now, and WinMiniGPS shows my position correctly, but TomTom and IGo8 still show me bouncing all over the world. I'm not sure what else to do. |
Re: GPS Position jumps all over
Mijenix,
Did you use the latest version of GpsGate? What GpsGate settings did you use, input, output? What TomTom, IGo8 GPS port did you use? I also found something in the TomTom site and don't know it heps: http://uk.support.tomtom.com/cgi-bin...i=&p_topview=1 |

Re: GPS Position jumps all over
Stevens
I am using the most recent version of GPSGate. I have set the input to WMGps and the output to com4, baud rate4800, also I have set the output to virtual com4 nmea no filter. When I use WMminigps it locks in to my position with no problem and the same with HTCGps viewer. When I start up IGo8 it sees my gps receiver and get plenty of satellites, but it never locks to my current position, it shows my position jumping all over the world. Its almost as if the GPS data is getting scrambled before it is sent to IGo8. I uninstalled TomTom, but the same thing happens with TomTom |
Re: GPS Position jumps all over
Mijenix,
I think the problem is using COM4 as the GpsGate output port, since by default WM uses COM4 for internal GPS, they will interfere with each other. Try to set the GpsGate output to COM2 nmea no filter only, and then configure IGo8 to use COM2 for GPS. Good Luck! |
Re: GPS Position jumps all over
Stevens,
I had tried that before and it didn't work. But now for some strange reason it is locking on to satellites and locking my position very quickly and accurately=D>. Lets hope that this has solved the problem. Thanks for all your input. I'll keep you informed. |
Re: GPS Position jumps all over
Mijenix,
That's great! I think this should be it. You can also try other COM ports as long as it's not COM4. Cheers. |
