These are needed usually when you port a GSM dialer onto a CDMA phone. Stock CDMA phones have multiple "phone codes" that are used for different purposes. Once you install the GSM dialer these functions no longer work (though some make it possible). Thanks, i asked the question more out of knowledge just for the mere fact of knowing, knowing more isn't gonna hurt anybody, appreciate that.
