Screen Off = Pause Everything?

I've read posts from people saying that they're able to do things like listen to mp3s, stream radio, etc. with the screen off, so I think there must be something wrong with my phone, because I can't do any of that. When the screen goes off, regardless of whether it's from me pushing the top button or from the phone sitting idle for a certain length of time, all sound stops. It happens both with or without headphones connected.

I think I've searched through every possible setting in the "control panel" area. Is there some registry setting I have to change to make the phone allow programs to run after the screen turns off?

Certain programs will cause the screen to remain on indefinitely. It'll dim after a certain length of time, but it won't turn off. This allows the programs to continue running, but I'd like to get the screen to turn completely off. Is that possible?

I've got a Sprint Touch with the latest official Sprint WM 6.1 ROM and am using Slide2Unlock. Could S2U be causing this?

Thanks for any help.

I think I found the answer.

Changing
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Power\State\Unattended\WAV1:
to "0" seems to have done the trick. It was originally set to "4".

Now when I use Pandora (which was what I mainly wanted this for), I can turn off the screen and it'll continue playing.

How has this affected your overall battery life? Does this trick also work for keeping your GPS active?

I am happy to say I just got pandora working on my alltel touch. I have been looking for away to turn off the backlight while streaming audio. This sounds great, but I am like the last poster and would like to know how has this affected over all battery life? I am assuming this fix allows the "power" button to toggle the backlight off/on without putting the phone into standby mode. I would think if you aren't streaming anything on your phone then your auto standby settings would still be in effect. Thoughts?

Re: Screen Off = Pause Everything?

sorry for the quick double post, but...
I just tried to close pandora by clicking the x in the corner. The program closed but continued to play even when I tried to toggle the "power" button. When I opened program manager it does not show up as a running program. I had to open pandora back up from the programs menu then click menu, exit pandora, then it stopped playing?
I also noticed that while it continued playing whether the screen was on or off, but when the screen was off it would skip about every 3 seconds. It plays flawlessly with the screen on. hmmm. don't know what to make of it?
