New to this need upgrade/GPS help-- Alltel Touch 6900

Ok im new to this so I really dont want to mess anything up.. I just got an Alltel HTC Touch MP6900, im assuming thats the vogue? anyhow, I am trying to figure out how to get the GPS working on this. I have downloaded GoogleMaps but im finding out i may have to unlock something to get the antenna to work? also, I was reading about this WM 6.1 update. Does this work for my phone as well? if someone could give me some step-by-step process to get this thing working i would appreciate it.

The GPS on my phone doesn't seem to work either and the Yahoo map program says it cannot access it either....

Every one will say to use the shadow gps hack. I guess I'm slow but I can't figure it out. My Gps worked with live search and google right after I flashed the new ROM. Then it stopped working. I did this twice with the same results. I tried the free alltel Nav and that works fine, and live search and google also work with it running in the back ground. I'm at a loss with this, I'm not going to pay $10 a month.](*,)

KJR,
You sound like me bro! I want to know the same thing. I also want to know how to make the Audio Manager my default player in cube instead of Windows Media Player.

These forums have some pretty cool toys, but I am not techy enough to know what the heck they are referring to. If anyone can break it down in laymen's terms.

OK, so I have an Alltel Touch (Vogue). I tried to read all of the various GPS posts on all the different web sites, did many of the steps to get GPS on my phone. It worked for a little while, then stopped. I went to the HTC website, went to support, picked my phone, downloaded the Latest ROM. Bingo! No hack, modification or tricks, I have gps. I installed google maps from m.google.com and clicked "use GPS" from the menu and Viola it works. the ROM and instructions for the Alltel Touch is here http://www.htc.com/us/SupportDownloa...at=2&dl_id=115. Here are the features of the new ROM per HTC:
The software upgrade posted below provides several key enhancements for your HTC Touch smartphone:
http://www.htc.com/image/bulletsquare_7x11.gif Upgrades the operating system from Windows Mobile® 6.0 Professional to Windows Mobile® 6.1 Professional. http://www.htc.com/image/bulletsquare_7x11.gif Adds the ability to use the internal GPS of the handset for advanced location services such as Alltel Navigation, an application that provides audible turn-by-turn directions and business listings. http://www.htc.com/image/bulletsquare_7x11.gif Adds a FREE Opera browser for improved web browsing. http://www.htc.com/image/bulletsquare_7x11.gif Includes updates for network speed, allowing the phone to use EVDO Rev A networks. http://www.htc.com/image/bulletsquare_7x11.gif Adds all enhancements included in previous software maintenance releases.

I would guess you could also go here HTC.com and pick your phone/carrier and see if there is an updated ROM for whatever HTC phone you have.

I've got mine up and running, try following this post.

I upgraded using the latest Alltel ROM from the HTC web site and also followed the above procedure and my GPS has been working great.

Ater flashing with the new HTC ROM, you need to make sure that:

START>SETTINGS>PERSONAL (tab)>PHONE>SERVICES(tab)>LOCATION SETTING(get settings...)> is set to ON.

Also, START>SETTINGS>SYSTEM(tab)>EXTERNAL GPS>GPS PROGRAM PORT>is set to COM4 and under the HARDWARE(tab) the GPS HARDWARE PORT is set to NONE and BAUD RATE is set to 4800.

Do a soft reset. Go to m.google.com and download the Google Maps app. After it's installed and you open it up go under the menu and pick "USE GPS". That's how I got my Altell HTEC Touch to work.

Go to settings - phone - services - hilight location setting - click on get setting - pick on. Your GPS should work.

You are running Windows Mobile 6.0 :(
I suggest you upgrade to 6.1 or 6.5 :)
There are stock rom upgrades in the upgrade forum or you can unlock and flash a custom 6.1 or 6.5 rom.
