hi. i just got my htc touch. i upgraded from a palm treo 700wx.
now, i've done a search and found threads about keyguard software and methods, but nothing that i needed.
is there a way (or software) that will automatically lock the touchscreen when i turn the screen off and then require a push of the center button or a button on the touchscreen when i turn the screen back on? (like my palm used to do)

my biggest problem is that when i get a text message, when i pull it out of the holster, i have like 3 programs popping up because they got touched on the today screen as i was pulling it out...

why not use s2u2 and get lots more?(caller id ect)

check out A_C's S2U2. get it here. http://www.ac-s2.com/ you can set it up to lock when it wakes up, and you slide to unlock. simple very useful program. also has fullscreen caller id ect ect. check it out.

that works wonderful! :) now, doing a google search, i see a lot of customized backgrounds etc... how do i do that? i don't see an option in "settings"

You can use his other program s2v. its a picture viewer and you can set it from there. that's how I do it. You can change it by selecting a picture in your my documents folder on the device, and there's another way, but i can't remember cuz i use s2v.

in the s2u2 settings you'll see the wallpaper selection section in there.

may wana get s2p while your at it. plays music with screen locked through s2u2. works killer. also make sure you use qvga cabs when you dl.

ok, here's a small issue i have with it. when i get a text message, the message notification pops up over the keyguard screen and allows the start menu and the softkeys to be used.
is there anything i can do about this? (even disabling the notification?)

disable the show message on screen setting.

Should be... Start/settings/personal/sounds and notifications then select new text message from the drop down menu and uncheck show message on screen.

seriously, some apps. or cabs or even sites we have to search for. and some people dont get it. most of the stuff i post is from my 6900 days, that i used and liked. with my diamond i dont use alot of these apps. but ill go find them if it helps someone out. i love to help, dont get me wrong, but a simple "thankyou" or even easier "green button" hit goes along way. some people dont get it, this op does. sorry to vent, and thanx.

ok i've used s2u2 for about a week so far but i've experienced a few problems... sometimes i'll get a text message and the phone will vibrate nonstop until i soft reset... other times, i'll get a call and won't be able to answer it because the screen is going nuts... i looked on other forums and it seems that other people are having this same problem....
so i guess my question is... is there a setting in windows that will make it so that the screen doesn't turn on at all when i receive a text message or email notification? i was told there was but for the life of me i can't find it...
if not, is there another keyguard software i can try?

I have had the same problem. If you hit the end call button it will stop the vibrating, atleast it does for me. it doesn't happen often enough to me to really bother me.

I've also had the same problem with answering calls. more so now with 1.33 than previous versions. I think there may be a bug there. anyway, I try to make sure the phone is done doing whatever(mms message, end phone call ect ect) before i lock it or hit the power button.

well, after lots of research, i'm finding myself answering my own question :)
i loved s2u2 but the apparent bugs drove me nuts. until they fix them, i found pLock.
it's similar to the "Device Lock" today screen item built into the touch, but it has an option to automatically lock the device after a determined amount of time, which is a good enough replacement for locking when the screen is turned off.

*edit* just like with s2u2, make sure you have pop-up notifications turned off because when you do get a notification, the softkeys are unlocked. considering the date of the last release, i doubt this will be fixed :(
*edit 2* also note that it only locks the screen, not the hardware buttons... this is a good and bad thing because you are still able to answer calls with the send button, but the camera button can still be used also (i never tested the hardware buttons on s2u2)

i ran version 1.22 of S2U2 without any problems. i can upload it for ya if you wanna try that version
