Yep, this is a cable that both sends and recieves data, as well as power to your device. It is usually faster (I think) then your OEM Charger that came with your device. However, leaving your device connected to your computer can sometimes cause problems, so just make sure your device doesn't slow down after staying plugged in all the time. I don't have your device to say for sure, but often software will start to cause problems (really it is just bugs, that need to get fixed) so see if it impacts your performance any. You are probably fine, but before replacing your device, check that.

Thanks both of u guys. I have Sprint HTC Touch. I just noticed that I can charge it via USB cable just as via wall charger, very interesting.

This is just awesome!!

Can this be charged via Bluetooth?

Re: USB Charging - Is this normal

No its cannot be charged via Bluetooth, it needs the physical cable connection...

Re: USB Charging - Is this normal

nope but you can set up a wireless tether for your laptop via bt...but the charge on the activesync is a bit slower then the wall...

Just for the record, the oem charger is about double the speed of the usb charge. From a dead battery to full my phone charges around 1.5h on wall charger, and around 3h on usb

Re: USB Charging - Is this normal

yes, usb max current is 500mah, the oem wall charger is 1000mah.

math is your friend.

Re: USB Charging - Is this normal

Is there anyways to switch the charging option via USB (if you prefer to)?
Also, is it safe to charge the phone via USB?

hooover 10-15-2008 01:34 PM

Re: USB Charging - Is this normal

Yes it is safe to charge your phone via usb, not really sure if there is a way to change it to be exclusively usb kinda sounds pointless seeing how its done automatically. As mentioned previously the usb charge from your pc is 1/2 the amount as the wall charger, that is why i feel like I get a more crisp charge from my pc then the wall but that's just a matter of personal opinion and has been discussed on threads before. Personal now i only use usb when I'm to lazy to walk upstairs and get my phone charger or if I have been drinking and I'm about to pass out on the couch, lol...

Re: USB Charging - Is this normal

The wall charge is very fast compared to USB. USB is my preferred way to charge due to the problems with the wall charge and discharging the battery to dead (see related thread on this topic). Rev A charge was a joke right? I cant see any interference with USB and the software on the phone.

P.s. Mobo, where can I get a tesla mini usb charger? I'd like to charge wirelessly, is it available through Ecare?
:-P

Thanks.. I didn't know for certain, but thought that it was. Also, you can charge using almost every USB port, as I have tried it several times successfully. Although, it doesn't seem to work properly with PS2...

Re: USB Charging - Is this normal

New one for me. The phone completely discharged itself last night. No hookups to wall or usb and had at least 80-90% charge. Not sure what could have been running but could not have been much. Time to wipe the memory again and rebuild.

Re: USB Charging - Is this normal

was your blue tooth on? or did you have a existing data connection going? either one of these will kill your phone pretty quickly...

Re: USB Charging - Is this normal

Nope bluetooth or data not on. I think it was a gremlin... getting my "new touch" from vzw next week (cause of the crack issue) this will be my third phone from them. i will have to rebuild that one anyways...

Sure, just remember to keep your activesync cable connected. There's a bug that prevents wireless charging unless you have the usb cable connected. At least that's my experience
