Touch screen doesnt work
 

Hi,
My screen died on my touch. It's still under warranty but I've got a hacked ROM on it (it's also a work phone no less!).
Is there a way to reflash back to the BELL ROM without having to physically touch the screen as the screen is not working.

My ROM that I have (I can't even get the version because I can't navigate) was to go from the basic ROM to GPS(alltell custom I think). I remember reading that to go to a standard ROM it will be a problem or perhaps that was only to go back to the non gps version? Regardless, I need to know if I can reflash the ROM without touching the screen.

Any suggestions? Am I going to get screwed with warranty because it's a hacked ROM even though it has nothing to do with the screen?

I think so, when you relock with 0.40coke and then load on an official ROM you will just be stuck at the touch the screen to start stage. It's been a little while since I had to do that but my problem wasn't screen, it was speaker related.

So you mean that if I load an official one it should work ok with no hassle? Remember I also dont have a screen working so I would need to be able to do this without having to touch the screen(hardware buttons work but it's a vogue of course)...

as long as it will sync. i had a similar problem just last week. i think my screen broke sideways, because every time i touched the sides, something opened or activated (mostly the clock/alarm tool). after i got my replacement i tried flashing some other roms for fun to the old one, and i found no matter if it would let me do anything to the phone, as long as it would power up and sync i could re-flash it.

Yes, but you have to run 0.40coke unlocker first, after that your spl will get overwritten with the stock spl if you don't they will be able to tell the ROM was hacked. Get 0.40 here http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=20370

If they ask, tell them you thought that it might be software related and you did a hard reset to try to fix it.

Thanks for the info.

Couple of things I don't understand:
- I already have a cooked ROM so my touch is already unlocked, no?
- Whats an SPL(sorry I forgot...I flashed this months ago with the kitchen and haven't really looked back!)
- As it stands, they will be able to tell I have a cooked ROM obviously. However, if I go back to the latest BELL ROM, how would they know?
- Also, are you positive that I do not have to touch the screen when I go through the hard reset/ROM update? I know at the end it will ask me to align the screen and all but I thought I remembered having to select something on the screen...anyway...

While I am at it I should also ask if I need to "relock" this to go back to stock?
My main concerns are:
- bricking this phone while trying to go from custom ROM to stock ROM
- getting stuck in the process of upgrading the rom if I have to use the touch screen(it doesn't work).

Sorry for the questions guys...I need to get this sorted as it's my work phone and I'm usually on the thing all day and every day and my work contact told me that his contact said it would take 2-3 weeks to get the stupid thing fixed (if it is covered under warranty).

You have to run the 0.40coke to 're-lock' your phone, it allows your phones spl to get re-written to the stock spl by the wm6.1 official Bell ROM (I don't know what spl stands for, but go back to the link I gave you earlier and read the first few paragraphs what a spl does is explained well there). Once you have run the 0.40, your phone is useless until you flash the official rom from the htc website. I have done this to my phone and it does work. I was terrified for a minute when I found out my phone kept re-booting until you run the Bell ROM. Once you are done, you will not be able to use your phone (because the touch screen still doesn't work) but as far as Bell is concerned, you just did a hard reset and it is still covered under warranty.

hey lip, ive done it before, I have a guide posted how to do this for BELL touches up on the net. Ive successfully returned more than one bell touch this way. Hope it works for you too..
