HTC Touch 3G - New lease on life for our phones?

Seems there's a new version of our phones coming out. The Touch 3G is almost identical with the exception of a 3.2MP camera and new TouchFLO interface similar to the Diamond's.

What I'm hoping for is that one of you guys can extract all the goodness from this phone and put it on ours.

Check it out (fixed) - http://www.htc.com/www/product.aspx?id=63744

That link is broken. There is nothing there. Are you referring to the OPAL ? I'm not sure if that;s 3G though ? IDK.. Post a different link.

firstly the link is still working regarding the HTC Touch 3G (aka Opal)
Secondly you can see the Opal Interface oft referred to on this site and others as the Manilla 2D interface
also please note the locations of 3G avaiklability in reference to this phone ...

(copied directed from the link)

[Network HSDPA/WCDMA:
  • Europe/Asia: 900/2100 MHz
  • Up to 384 kbps up-link and 7.2 Mbps down-link speeds
Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE:
  • 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
(Band frequency and data speed are operator dependent.)]

this has been the typical release information for many phones of late including those from HTC themselves - Even the HTC Touch HD due around Dec/Jan that is supposedly the real IPhone Killer (hate that term) will only have 3G capabilities in Europe and Asia

Hate bursting bubbles the the popping sound reminds me if bubble wrap LOL

Looks like HTC killed the link. Try this one - http://www.htc.com/www/product.aspx?id=63744

Engadget suggests that it's not the Opel. It's still way too early to say...

Guys, The UI from the Opal was extracted and ported to all or most HTC devices. You can try the UI by intalling it from here:

It is not perfect as of yet but we're getting there.

Great news. I'm downloading it now.

It looks like right now this is a .cab file, so you can install it on most devices.

Once the kinks have been worked out I'm sure we will see the cooks work it into roms and kitchens. Looks like a good step forward.

i think all carriers should just give us a free upgrade to this new version of the touch...it would be good for business...would show they are future ready...that's what i would do if i owned a mobile provider...make some sort of arrangement with HTC to recycle the old touch in exchange for the 3g touch...to bad that wont happen lol](*,)
