GPS Question and a little rant
Got the Verizon XV6900...
My rant. This phone's reception is the worst i have ever come across, my samsung u740 gets full service in my house and outside of it, this phone is lucky to get 1 and usually drops calls.. how can someone develope a phone with such horribly reception. my second question about GPS. did the radio update and such like every usually does with the Touch or XV6900. now the gps is all set up and stuff after the install. are there any other steps i have to do to get the gps working. What are some good programs? do i have to have a data package to make it work right? |

The "search" button is a good friend, now go make a new friend today. = D Quote:
there are plenty of gps apps on this forum... msn live search & google maps are free and can be downloaded to your SD card and installed via CAB files. Then there are a few good voice/turn by turn apps on the web like TomTom XX.XX and iGO for example which can be bought. I recommend having at least "live search" because it does so much more than just maps and gps, also does restaurant, gas prices, etc... And a voice/turn by turn GPS app while driving which free apps like "live search/google maps" DO NOT do. a few things to note though.. updated to latest WM 6.1 and radio 3.XX.XX for your carrier 1) verify if your external gps setting are as such - GPS program port : COM4, Hardware tab > GPS hardware port : (NONE), Access tab : checked. 2) under start > settings > personal > phone > services tab > location settings > get settings button : ON, then X to close. Those are just to make sure your device settings are in correct order. Problem i've noticed with the touch/vogue(6900) for sprint, is the GPS tends to be buggy compared to when I had the mogul(6800). answer to the 2nd part of your GPS without data plan question : no, but it's not a "sure-fire" answer. Involves tweaking your regedit combined with putting your phone in flight mode to test out and verifying aGPS isn't turning on the data connection. Some have gotten GPS alone to work, some haven't. on a side note.. I like my post count low, keeps me from mucking up the forums with obvious questions like this which could be easily answered by just less "ranting" and more reading up. BTW.... Welcome to PPCgeeks, pull up a seat and enjoy your stay. = ) |
Re: GPS Question and a little rant
instead of being one of the many thousands of people that say use the search, you could up your total of 16 posts and give a little help. im glad the only thing you pointed out for me to search for was that.
