Internet Connection Sharing

Ok I need help. I installed the reg hack to adjust the settings on my phone for ICS and then connected my phone to my "LAPTOP" with active sync running. I open ICS and hit connect it connects I surf the web no problem. I then do the same exact thing with my wifes "LAPTOP", no problem. Then I tried to connect to my "HOME PC" and it says its connected on my phone but no internet. I do the same thing with a coworkers "HOME PC" and no internet. Now I don't think there should be a reason that it works on my laptops and I cant get it to work on a pc. But crap I cannot get it to work for some reason. I am using XP on all computers except for my wifes laptop she has vista. I am using the same phone on all of them. Can someone give me some ideas? Firewalls, ports, anything..... ?

I'm having a similar problem. The connections shows up in my network connections as connected. I have an IP address: 192.168.0.102, and I can ping the gateway (which I assume is my Touch) at the IP 192.168.0.1. If I bring up the network connection, it shows I am connected at 10 Mbps, and I see packets beings sent and received but it's like 1 every second, so it appears it's not real data going back and forth... I've connected on this same computer before, so I have no idea what is going on... .anyone?

Re: Internet Connection Sharing

So I was having two problems:

1) Apparently I needed to add a DNS server (I found I could connect to an IP address but not find google.com). I saw someone else had added 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2 as DNS servers so I did that.

2) When I am connected to my work LAN it doesn't work for some reason. Disabling my other network connections helped.

Now ideally, I'd like to use Firefox without my work proxy using ICS, and have the rest of my applications using my work LAN so I can still work. Anyone know of a way to do this? I don't really want to bridge my network connections via XP as it will allow complete accesss both ways....

Re: Internet Connection Sharing

I do just this at work with my mogul...All I did was remove the dns servers and the gateway from my lan network connection, the mogul pops up as its own connection and I let it sit at DHCP. Now no public in/out packets go through my lan connection BUT I can still connect to the unix server to do my work

PS: Just won a touch for 154 on the bay today! Mogul is too bulky and slow...cant wait for it to get here!! lol

Problem is I do need the DNS on the work LAN to look up intranet domain names.

Re: Internet Connection Sharing

My problem was I had the network cable plugged in and it was attached to a modem with no connection. So it was looking for internet their and not on the phone!

Glad you got it figured out!

So I'm thinking is there a way to set the proxy in firefox to use a certain conntection? Can I somehow set up firefox to look at my phone as it's proxy to the internet? Seems doable to me....

Re: Internet Connection Sharing

So I found this

http://lifehacker.com/software/featu...top-327066.php

Seems to be that you can set up OpenSSH server on the Windows Mobile device, connect using a client like putty, setup a local proxy in firefox to localhost:9999 and you are good to go (all the while being encrypted).

Here's where OpenSSH can be downloaded:
http://www.codeplex.com/wiki/view.as...jectname=CESSH

But this is pretty terse in terms of how to get things running. I can't get the SSH server to run on my Touch. I'm going to cross post in the PPC software forum to get more eyeballs. I'll link it here when I do.
