What Is The Definition Of A Bloated Rom?
I was always under the impression that a bloated rom is a rom which has too many programs opening up each time the phone boots up. (programs in the startup folder) and as a result, the rom is sluggish. If there is a rom that is loaded with applications that does not open when the phone boots up, does that still make it a bloated rom? Performance should be similar to a bare bones rom as long as all the applications are not opening up at startup. For example, seven mobile email slows the mess out of a rom, so does sip changer and aeb buttons to name a few. Am I right when I say "bloated" is a rom with too many items in the startup folder?

Re: What Is The Definition Of A Bloated Rom?
I'm interested in knowing the answer to this as well... Ever since i found out of existence of freewares ... ive been installing trials after trials or freewares after frewares to evaluate... sometimes i find my phone slow in responding...
Its probably because of those damn registry left overs ..like windows deteriorates over time!!! Now i need to find a good cleaning util any suggestion :P |

I'd say it's how much is actually on the ROM, since you can easily remove any startup links. Especially with the Vogue's available memory, it can handle a few startup apps.

Re: What Is The Definition Of A Bloated Rom?
The answer is pretty simple some chefs use the term in order to promote there own ROMS by putting down others for whats in them.
Here is the facts the amount of programs in a ROM does not determine its speed or available RAM only the number of options you can ultimately do with the ROM. Now this is not to say if you try to run everything at once the device wont slow down as it will. It is fine to have your ROM FULLY LOADED if that is your liking but keep in mind whatever is running at startup will eat away at your available RAM. ONCE AGAIN LOADING THE ROM TO FULL CAPACITY DOES NOT AFFECT PERFORMANCE IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM!!!! Quote:

Well said Nex!! I remember when I was using the Apache that the rom size was a specific size, if you added too much in your kitchen you'd get an error or it would be funky on 1st bootup.....if you didn't add very much, it was wasted space.......does this hold true for the Touch also? and if so, do you know the size of the rom partition? thx |
Re: What Is The Definition Of A Bloated Rom?
From the kitchen log
Total Sectors: 0xc000 (0x5ff26c0 used of 0x6000000, 0x0366 unused (0x0001 in largest)) I have maxed out both the touch and the titan the only ill effects I have ever seen is slow boot after HR due to all the setups I have running but thats it I say its there fill the puppy... |
Re: What Is The Definition Of A Bloated Rom?
Bloated ROM = a name given to a ROM preloaded with a bunch of programs that said person may not use, therefore it's bloated. It's all relative to the individual user's needs & opinions......
However, I don't see the point of all these new random chefs...who don't change anything in the OS \ROM or \XIP, and simply load some different programs and call it their own ROM..... |
