Broken LCD

Has anyone replaced an LCD? I have the opportunity to get a Sprint Touch
with a cracked LCD for 50 beans.
I was thinking of replacing the screen or just activating it and cashing in on the insurance I've been paying for ever on my 6700.
How does the Touch compare to the 6700? Is this worth the hassle?

Very cool.
I was thinking about trying the insurance route before opening the phone, but if I need to replace the LCD myself, I'll take that spare off you hands.

Not a problem. I've also heard of guys buying the screens and taking them to the sprint service center. They would install it for you for free. It's really not that big of a deal. It takes all of about 5 minutes. Good luck, let me know. Thanks T M Z

I am one of the many who have switched from the 6700 to the Touch... SOOO much better. you won't be disappointed.

as for getting a new one from insurance.... you won't be getting a new one, it will be a refurbished one. every verizon phone I had, i needed to go through insurance to get a new one and with every phone i got, it wasn't as good as the original.

Good to hear that the Touch is nicer than the 6700,
but now that I think about it, I might not even be able to activate it if the screen is too bad. I can't tell from the pics.
I'll find out for sure this afternoon. I might just have to replace the LCD after all.

This thing may be hosed. It has a massive crack in the lower right hand corner, but all I get is a white screen.
I've seen cracked LCDs where you could still see parts of the desktop. I wondering if anything else was f'ed up. Maybe the connector.
I tried a hard reset but no dice.

hm... thats interesting that it massively cracked in the lower right hand corner. after having my touch for 2 days i dropped it and it massively cracked on the lower right hand corner. Cracked so much that the whole screen went blank and I could only see light in the cracks. Luckly, after waiting for the phone to die, i took it back to verizon and said it just stopped working. they gave me a new one right out of the box for free.

see the link below. The LCD screen is a totally seperate part from the motherboard, so i would think if the screen is f*ed up, everything else might be fine.

Also what you can do is use Pocket controller http://www.soti.net/default.asp?Cmd=...s&SubCmd=PCPro
and you can see your today screen from your comptuer. When my phone broke, i took all my personal information off the touch with it before i sent it back. i don't know if this is what you want to do, but i know through verizon, all you need is the ein (I think thats what they call it) from the back of the phone (in side the battery compartment when you take the battery back) and you can activate it on-line.

never the less... to actually use the touch, a replacement LCD is prob the best bet for ya.

I screwed up by doing the hard reset, so it's pending setup, and I can't see anything on the screen. I won't be able to mess around with Pocket Controller.
The good news, the local Sprint repair shop ordered me another phone today, so I should have it in the next few days:headbang:
