Disabling the startup animation

I flashed DHarvey's Vista Black rom, but it wasn't quite what I was looking for.

I then flashed JD's 1996X Hybrid ROM, and it works wonders, but the startup animation from DHarvey's is still there.

I went to the registry "HKLM\Software\HTC\StartupAnimation", but there weren't any registry entries (just a key that said "Default" with "(value not set)"). So I added a dword value that said "Enabled" and set it to "0". This did not change anything.

Can anyone help me?

sanderz6900,

unfortunately, JD's rom is soo clean that it left the last setting for bootup as-is. you have two options.. you can try and flash a rom with the startup you want, then reflash JD's rom; or if you like, she out this development thread post #5:

Re: Disabling the startup animation

It sounds like time for a hard-reset.

Before you try that, pull the battery and let it sit for 30 seconds and see if pulling the battery cleared it up. If that doesn't work, then a hard-reset should fix it.

Boot-splash screens (two can be set) will hang around, but startup animations are part of the ROM and should not persist from one rom to another.

When I need to restore my boot screens, I just flash the official release, then the rom I want. Easy fix! :)

Exactly! Or, I think you and OMJ both put together instructions on how to create a rom to flash the boot splash (only).

I'm not exactly sure what is being described by the OP.

Have you ever heard of a startup animation persisting from one rom to the next?

Is impossible for startup animation to persist between flashes.

The only thing that will last between flashes is the 1st and 2nd boot splash screens.

Somewhere on here is a .NBH that will flash back the stock boot screens.

It will hard reset your device. If not, there is a tutorial in the how to section that is stickied.

I'd almost agree with you if I hadn't seen some of the crazy things I have seen with roms.

I've seen a hard-reset resolve titlebar clock not showing.
I've seen a hard-reset resolve incorrect theme display.

... and I am talking about flash from the kitchen and let the rom boot and notice something is not right ... then hard-reset and it fixes the anomaly

... but I am inclined to agree - this seems implausible

If you are certain that this is a startup animation, then go into the windows directory and double-click on each *.gif file. When the animation that you see at startup is displayed, then delete that file.
