Any way to keep the keyboard from coming up as soon as I open a text message?

Sometimes I just want to read one, but the keyboard comes up and takes up half the screen... its just an annoyance.

I'm using PCM Keyboard, not sure if that may have something to do with it.

(Hmm.. I make too many topics here)
