Re: GPS in Flight mode???

I tried to use gps in flight mode last night and it DIDN'T work. Using GPSToday. I couldn't get any locks. When I opened tomtom after starting GPSToday TT said it couldn't get the satellite b/c phone was in airplane mode.

I tried with Airplane mode on, Phone on, did a couple of soft resets and nothing....

Garmin XT Mobile can work in flight mode. Just disable the need for an internet connection in settings.

Re: GPS in Flight mode???

So which Stand alone GPS software will work in flight mode?

I have TT7 and when i launch it in flight mode it says, cannot find gps device when flight mode is on (something like that).

Also about the registry setting, if I'm using assisted GPS, do I need to change any registry settings if Im in flight mode ( since by definition, it will only acquire satellite signals and NONE of the information from cell towers or IP Servers) ?

I'm confused because:
1. I like the idea of Assisted GPS when I'm local and wont incur any extra data charges ( im on unltd data plan) but
2. I'd like to also keep the idea of using only the GPS device to acquire signals ( although it takes longer) when I'm abroad and dont want to use any Data connection or ROAMING charges to get the initial lock.

Thanks for anyone who can help me understand this...

On my VZW 6900, I've gone through several roms and have used it a few times on a plane with 'Flight Mode' on. I got locks, although I wasn't using any type of nav software. I just tested in my house with Flight Mode on and used BeeLine gps and I got a lock on 5 satellites. All my radios were off.

my verizon xv6900 gps works in airplane mode- on the ground; i can't actually catch a gps signal on a plane though (i assume all the metal of the airplane is blocking the signal from that ittybitty gps antenna on the phone)...

Re: GPS in Flight mode???

I actually had no problems in the plane...it gave me a speed (400+ mph), altitude (31K feet), heading and blah blah. I did have a window seat though, and found that if I put the phone on the center tray table, the GPS would drop more frequently, but in the window seat tray, it kept up very well.

Re: GPS in Flight mode???

Put my phone in Airplane mode and started Garmin XT and had Sat lock in about 5 seconds inside the house. No custom ROM only newest Sprint ROM. No Reg hacks or anything.

Re: GPS in Flight mode???

Confirmed, Garmin XT and CoPilot work fine in Airplane mode. TT7 does not.

No hacks used, no tricks needed.

Re: GPS in Flight mode???

Ok I've done some test on TT7 and iGO8 in flight mode with AstroLauncher (GPS Prime):
1. TT7 wil not work because it detects that it is in flight mode.
2. iGO8 works after a COLD start ... took about 5-10 mins from a reset to get a fix . When I close it and reopen it using the Astro Launcher, it finds a fix within 5-10 secs still in Airplone mode.

Note that both does not work without priming with Astro Launcher. I am using a custom ROM from NFSFAN.
