Motorola 2.5mm -> mini USB adapter questions

I lost my BT headset and really wasn't happy with it when I had it (expensive Plantronics). I'm looking to go back to my old mono wired set that I loved.

I found a VERY cheap Motorola adapter on Amazon (HERE) but the description only displays compatibility with other Motorola phones. Is there really a difference with these/any adapters?

I tried a Motorola mini USB to 3.5mm adapter when I first got my phone. It didn't work, so I suspect that they may have proprietary wiring.
