Text To Speech on Tom Tom 7

OK, so for all of my fellow tom tom users who spend good money on a map that offers the text to speech feature who feel jilted such as myself cause the feature is NOT working with Tom Tom 7 on your touch (or whatever else you may have installed it on)....i found out some interesting info from Tom Tom support.

Apparently the feature is supported in the PDA version, we just dont have the correct voice to take advantage of the feature. I'm currently waiting for the next email from Tom Tom support as to where i can get the voice....i didn't see it on the site nor did I find anything with a google search.

The correct voice(s) to use are denoted as "computer voice". They may come in different flavors, (Male, Female, UK Female, etc) but I can't confirm that yet.

If anyone has a Tom Tom unit (Go, XL, etc) please let me know because I believe the voice is on the Tom Tom DVD and (if it doesn't violate the rules of the forum) it can be shared

Updates to follow as I find out more.

tomtom tts is very cool. check out the demo here on a go: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fBLBycqf574 however, i dont think it will work. other than the speech files and the voices, you also need the tts engine. tomtom uses loquendo tts engine in their go, which run under linux, and unless tomtom port it for windows mobile, it probably wont work under the touch. i'm aware that igo8 also ues the loquendo tts engine, but doubt it will work with tomtom navigator.

LOL i was just going to post that same link to the youtube demo.

I didn't know that a special TTS engine had to be used ](*,)

So much for getting this to work on the Touch :protest:

Navigator 7 does not support the text-to-speech feature that can be found on most of our all-in-one devices. We apologize for the confusion with our earlier statements. Computer voices will not function while using this software.

Ahh well, confirms what we already knew. Guess maybe we will get lucky and TomTom will release version 8 for PDA with TTS??
