TomTom7 possible without Primer?

Has anybody gotten TomTom7 working without using a primer? The astrolauncher does not work with TomTom7 and I have seen in xda where people have gotten other devices to use the internal GPS with TomTom7 w/o a primer, but has anybody gotten it to successfully work with their Touch?

Re: TomTom7 possible without Primer?

in my opinion, using the primer is too much work compared to garmin xt where it self primes. I'd use garmin if I were you

Re: TomTom7 possible without Primer?

I would use Garmin XT, but I don't like its routing functionality. I can prepare a short route and it has told me to go a few miles out of the way to get there. It may just be how recent the maps are, but the roads I would take have been there for years now

Oh, I see. I've been using it and have been satisfied so far. The only thing I miss is the text to speech (street names announced). Is there a windows mobile gps software that does have text to speech? Also, have you tried IGO 8? That sounds promising too.

Astrolauncher does work, I'm using it.

what version of astrolauncher are you using? Are you also using TomTom v7?

Re: TomTom7 possible without Primer?

By primer are you talking about the start up screen with TomTom 7? I did notice that v7 seems to load slower than v6 did. But I am using it off an 8gb microSD card on a 6700.

Re: TomTom7 possible without Primer?

I'm talking about using the Internal GPS of the Touch without using a GPS Primer or Launcher such as GPSToday or AstroLauncher

Tom Tom 7 does work with astrogps launcher, I am using it without any problem as well.

Re: TomTom7 possible without Primer?

Ok, I figured it out. I installed TomTom to the storage card so I updated the .lnk that it creates. I think Version 7 installs Tom Tom Navigator.exe in a different place than 6.

iGuidance has TTS, but the interface isn't as nice as Garmin XT. I also use Garmin XT and I've been pretty happy with it.

+1 it would be nice to not need to prime it but once you install atrso GPS and create the new shortcut (not that big of a deal) it works great. I am VERY impressed with the signal quality indoors and how fast it locks, well under 30 seconds every time even indoors

Re: TomTom7 possible without Primer?

I also tried astro launcher which does work. but in the end, i installed GPSgate to prime TomTom. There is a 15day trial to play with the product and Its $14 which is a reasonable price. and i most like the fact that you could configure it to autostart during any soft reset. So its in on all the time. additionally it creates a icon on the bottom bar that changes colors to notify you what kind of GPS signal you are recieving. the icon is Red for no GPS , Yellow For Searching for satellites, or green for Seeing satellites and having a fix. which is very nice info to have on the main screen. The icon let you know if you have a Satellite fix before starting TomTom, Google maps, Live Search. which is nice.

If it's on all the time does it drain your battery noticeably?

Thanks,

Which maps are you guys using with tom tom 7? I am using the 2GB US map and tom tom is SLOW!!!

When i use tom tom 6, it runs much faster (but i am using a regional map with 6).

Has anyone else noticed a major difference in speed between version 6 and 7?

Is there a way to fix this? (i already tried turning off the POIs that didn't change anything :-()

Re: TomTom7 possible without Primer?

how do you override the backlight to have it on at all times when using tomtom7

tobeychris 07-04-2008 08:51 AM

Re: TomTom7 possible without Primer?

Having your GPS on at all times is a waste of money. Not only will it drain your battery considerably, but your phone will always be using unnecessary cpu power, and would get very hot when charging because of the extensive use.

Why pay for a program when there's better free ones?

Which ttn7.cab file are you using? the one i'm using works for about 2 minutes and stops - would you mind uploading the .cab?

Thanks :)

Re: TomTom7 possible without Primer?

Here are my two files.

The first is a rar (so open it on your computer) and copy the Navigation folder to your Vogue\Program Files\ folder (this is where the files for most installed programs go).

The next is astrolauncher. It will created the shortcut in the programs menu, and because of the way it was installed, there will only be one shortcut, instead of the regular two.

Navigator

TomTom Launcher

Just tested Copilot 7, this app is also capable of self priming. When you run it, it will fire up the GPS all on its own. And its got some pretty cool features (traffic over the internet connection, Copilot Live where people can send you messages and see where you are and even make suggestions on what your next destination should be)

No text to speech though :-(

Tom Tom is still my number one, but some may like Copilot 7..check it out, its my new number two (replacing Inav 4)

I just installed the astrolauncher but I'm not sure how do use it. I see the icon in my programs listing but it doesn't do anything. Is that normal?

Thanks

Re: TomTom7 possible without Primer?

did you install tt7? the launcher needs a program to launch.

dtuma1980 07-30-2008 12:02 PM

Re: TomTom7 possible without Primer?

I use TT7 and it is probably 25-30% faster than TT6. My maps are around 900mb (all of US).

I also do prime before I use. BAZ GPS works the best for me, as I can put a link directly under my TT7 link on my desktop. 1 click on, 1 click TT7 - and on exit, its a 1 click off.

tobey, thanks for the reply. I got it working. I hit the wrong program.no idea what told me to open inavigator when I have TT7.

I use the TomTom7 USA & Canada Maps. They're only about 900MB and they are quick even with POI turned on.

you should try astrolauncher, after you setup the shortcut, only one click and you are good

yup i got astrolauncher to work with tt7 and its damn quick, I also copied the short cut from TT 7 launcher that astrolauncher makes, copied it to the tt 7 navigator icon (changed the properties via resco file explorer) and now the tomtom icon on my today screen boots tt7 up primed :D
