Yes, the rainbow screen will always be displayed when doing a ROM update. It will start with the rainbow screen, and then eventually turn to a grey screen with a blue progress bar. You will hear (windows) disconnects happening if there is a radio update. It's normal.

What state is your phone in now? Can it boot into Windows?

If so, then get it to activesync with your computer first... then rerun the .exe. It will disconnect and stuff as mentioned, just wait it out... when it's done it'll reboot back into Win 6.1 and ask you about the time zone, etc.

If not, then you'll need to go the SD card route to recover.

yeah i just pulled the battery and it started back up fine. i didn't know that was normal. thanks and ill give it a whirl.
