Is there any way to disable the keypad backlight while keeping the LCD backlight on?

I am very interested to know... Is it possible to completely disable the backlight(the green and red buttons) on the keypad while the LCD's backlight is on?

I would like the buttons to glow only when on a call but if that is not possible then I will not mind, I spend hours and hours playing solitaire and bubble breaker on my phone and those 2 glowing buttons get annoying after a while...

Please any help would be appreciated.

There's an app on XDA that might help you. It's called nueLEDcontrol and is discussed (along with nueLED) here:

Thanks for the suggestion. I checked it out but it seems that it only allows customization of the LED's up near the earpiece. I am looking to disable the red and green LED's down in the "Call" and "End Call" buttons.

Sound like an interesting suggestion. I assume they are controlled by the same device as the backlight, because they turn off when the screen does. It would probably then be much harder to disable them, let alone have them identify when you are in call.

But then again, I thought it was impossible to control the Signal LED...

Unfortunately not. The LCD and send/end key share the same light source(on the board). One cannot be on without the other. :disgust:

Go into the backlight control panel, move the slider all the way to the left, and the green and red buttons will turn off, but the LCD will still be on.

In my reply I assumed that he wanted keep the lcd backlight at a normal level for prolonged use. Bringing the lcd to its lowest level will make the screen very hard to see in daylight, Although it is a good solution for playing solitaire in the dark

I think we all realize that, I think what he meant was you were wrong, the green and red lights are not lit up by the LCD, and if you do what he told you, you will see that as the LCD gets dimmer, the green/red lights do not, until you get to the very last notch and they turn off completely while the LCD is still lit dimly. Therefore, it is likely that this mod is still somehow possible.

Thanks for telling us what he meant. Next time maybe you should let the person that made the comment tell me what he "meant" by it, and try reading my reply again. I said that the buttons are lit up by the lcd (on the board), no where do I say that it shares the same light source. At any of the normal light settings, if you disconnect the end/send lights from the board itself, then the LCD will not light up at all, and then when left at its lowest setting the lcd light will turn on again (I've tried it). SO, like I said, one cannot have one on without the other, unless you put the LCD at its lowest setting which is not the result the question asker is looking for (like I stated earlier).

Next time, when replying to someones comment, try not to come off as a prick, and you will get better responses to your feedback.

Well I hadn't thought this would become an argument...

I still think that this has to be possible somehow. As mentioned above, when you dim the backlight the 2 LEDs in the keys stay the same brightness until you reach the minimum backlight and then they shut off so if they do not dim together than they are most likely not controlled "100%" together. That being said, should it be the case, there is most likely a driver for each set of LEDs: one driver that controls the 2 buttons and one driver that controls the LCD's Backlight that somehow work together.

If it is possible to control the LEDs up by the earpiece speaker then I'm sure there has to be a way to control the LEDs in the buttons as well...

Wow, sorry man, I must be in a foul mood or something today, I did not mean to, or even realize I was being a **** in my post. Honestly, I've never came on here and tried to act like a hot shot or think that I know more than anyone else, and I really don't know why I would have came off like that today. Again, really sorry, no harm meant at all.

Right, even though my post may have came out wrong, I still think they are driven indepently, regardless of how they are connected to the board.

But you've found more for me, like that SPB calculator, YouTube player updates, and of course the helpful pics for LCD, digitizer, and faceplate replacement. Still using that calculator, but with my own Vogue style skin:
