Unofficial Roms / Custom Roms Safe ?
 

Hi,

I'm interested in upgrading to an unofficial ROM as the Bell one seems to be lacking. How safe(re: security) are ROMs created by 3rd parties?

Can't 3rd parties install keyloggers and other crap into the ROM without me knowing?

Are there any other privacy/security risks?

There could be, but I have not seen any to my knowledge. If this is a worry, learn to cook your own rom...
Possibly...You have to know your chef's reputation. I so far have not seen anyone do anything here that was malicious. So far the roms I have encountered are safe. Chefs here pride themselves in their roms, and the big names would never do anyone's device harm. A chef's rom is like a knight's shield, a mothers newborn, or an irishmans beer.

And we do not care what you are doing with your phone, we are not a government agency, just a bunch of geeks hanging out on some guys computer in north carolina somewhere....

I'm with Bell also. Unlocked with 2.31 Coke, flashed leaked Sprint Rom to get latest radio update, then used the Kitchen to build and flash my own rom. I was trying to keep my custom rom close to original, but the first build was missing some stuff. My second build has been perfect. Been running without issues. Nice to have GPS and WM6.1 + some other goodies.
