Texting on the Touch is a hassle, nananananan I said it.

Sorry, just a stress release there. Dude, your skin is going to grow around your phone texting that much, dang. I would say that you are not a texting beast, you are more of a texting phenom.

I just downloaded TouchPal v3 since I paid for v2 and never used it because I was use to regular QWERTY kb, but so far I like TP v3.

I came from Palm (from the PDAs to the Treo) and I was use to the one hand operation also, I returned the Mogul after 1 week.

Alright; I laughed so hard my wife is shaking her head at me.

That is funny and I cannot, for the life of me, think of anything as a reply ... you left me speachless! =D>

Did you happen to type this reply on your Touch?

I ask, because I have seen some of my associates TXT and it is like trying to decipher some kind of secret code.

yeah actually i did... dont ya just love skyfire lol.. but yeah, i text a lot..
lol and that acrinym thingy was hilarious!!

and to that fingerprint comment.. if you have a screen protector, you will get no fingerprints at all.. i repeat.. NO FINGERPRINTS, so you get the benefit of protecting your screen while eliminating any fingerprint issues

Re: At what point does one say "I need a real keyboard?"

I am using the screen protector that came with the touch and while I don't exactly get fingerprints, it does smudge up quite a bit ... but given the fact that I am somewhat addicted to the pump hand-sanitizer, I can't expect some of it to transfer to the touch screen.

Didnt read the rest of the thread, but I was kind in the same boat. It is still not perfect, but my favorite so far is PCMKeyboard with the IPhone skin.

If you want a qwerty kb, that was my favorite one...

Hi guys,

It's been a week with the HTC Touch and I think that I need a keyboard.

Here is what I've done so far:
1. Tried the standard HTC keyboard, Touchpal, and the HTC Diamond keyboard. While all have their merits and demerits, I just can't seem to get good at it. Predictive input, straight up no prediction, 2 letters to a button layout, full layout, nothing.
2. Read the Touchpal manual. I'm pretty sure that I'm using it correctly.
3. Tried to tell myself "Hey, it's never going to be as fast as a real keyboard, but I'm carrying around a tiny phone that is otherwise great in every respect that I need it to be (save wifi)."

My question:

1. Given my background (Treos for the last 4 years) + the fact that I will audaciously say that I am a darn fast thumb typer, am I just going to need to get a real keyboard or should I give ti more time with the software keyboards?
2. You should also know that my friend has a Mogul and turning it to the side everytime you want to fire off a message isn't a huge deal, but it is awkward to me b/c I feel like it's a full contact sport. I've got to use the d-pad to navigate with my left hand and then there are other buttons to learn; it almost seems excessive b/c I don't know if I should just touch the screen or use one of the 63 buttons to accomplish my task.
3. I also had access to an iPhone (I'll never buy one b/c I can't stand Apple's reality distortion field) and I absolutely could not get used to the keyboard. I had a friend who had an iphone, two of them actually, and we each typed a text message of like 130 characters--me on my treo 700wx and them two on their iphones. I finished in half the time it took both of them. They were not newbies either.

Yea, I used to use the PocketCM keyboard with an iphone skin. Now I use Resco keyboard Pro. And sometimes the HTC Diamond Keyboard if i need to get something out quick and one-handed while I'm driving

Gotta' say... If you are a past Q, Mogul, etc. user and miss the keyboard, SPB's option is the best. I tried a lot of the other options but I get an email of text out a LOT quicker with this.

I must admit, I used to like pocketcm keyboard even before I found this, but I use the skin showcased in this youtube video.

Its not PURE iphone, but its big, useful and works great for fat fingers. I have NO problems texting or emailing fast with it.

Heck I just signed up for an exchange account (found a great 5.00 per month deal) and use it for inputting on cal and notes etc.

Check it out, its from some other cell site http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=haqujg4nP6I

Re: At what point does one say "I need a real keyboard?"

I've tried many of the different soft keyboards on the Touch and I can say that I like some of them more than others, but I don't think I'll ever get used to any of them because I just can't get used to typing on a soft keyboard at all. It just feels mushy. I am very much a tocuh typist (even on this crappy G15 keyboard at home)... I just need something tactile to type properly.

I'm eagerly awaiting the release of this: http://freedominput.com/site/index.p...d=13&Itemid=30
