Video streaming buffered a lot with Orb on WM 6.1
I tried to set up the Orb streaming on my home computer and Sprint Touch with WM6.1 system.
Home computer (runs 24*7), pretty old one Celeron 1.3G/512M SDRAM/200G hard-drive with all the codecs installed. In the orb configuration I changed the default port for windows media from 80 to some random number, and changed the default TCP port 546 for real media as well, but did not change the UDP ports (Duno if they are linked together). Also I forward all these ports to the IP of this computer since I had two desktops in home LAN. I had a 5MB RoadRunner standard cable internet at home BTW. Touch: TCPMP installed, set the Buffer size to 7200K, preload percentage to 15%. Orb on the phone was set to streaming with windows media, and the network speed is ranging from 400Kbs to 700Kbs. Now, I can stream music files without any problem, no skipping no buffering. But when streaming video I got a whole lot of buffering, usually 10s a time and after several times it will just keep buffering for long enough to go beyond my patience. My questions here: 1. Do the default TCP ports have any relationship with the UDP ports for Real media? I ask this because I changed the default TCP port but left the UDP ports in default. Personally I don't think it matters since I stream in windows media format. 2. Can anyone provide some suggestions in TCPMP configuration? I don't really know if the buffering setting I'm using is actually good or not. 3. My Sprint EVDO signal is not that good at the places I tried streaming, at home I got like 2 bars to 1 bar, at office I only got 0 to 1 bar. But based on the speed test of Orb application on the phone, the speed is from 375kbs to 800kbs. I don't know whether it's enough for video streaming. 4. Is there any other setting I can try to tune up for video streaming? 5. For guys with smooth video streaming, would you please list your EVDO signal strength or network speed (results from Orb)? Thanks a lot. |
