Adding email account problem
 

Hi guys, I'm having a problem adding a gmail account that has a period in the username, I'm trying to add an account that is firstname.lastname@gmail.com but for some reason the touch keeps saying that cannot log in, check user name or password. I know that I am typing everything right because when I went to gmail through the web browser I logged in fine with the same information. If anyone has encountered this and found a way around it that would be great. Thanks in advance.

u did enable pop on your gmail settings, right?

I did check the save password box, but that's not it since it won't log in in the first place. I am actually using IMAP, set up by instructions on gmails help section, and the same way I set up my second account with gmail that works fine. Do you think pop will make a difference?

No, wm6. I haven't really done any modding, just installed a few programs.

No, not if you are using imap. I also use imap to check mail on Gmail. During the setup, did you click on advanced setup and check the two boxes?

Setting up an imap connection to Gmail is a royal pain in the you know what on WM6. On the first screen, if you tell it you want to logon to Gmail, WM6 will take over and set up a pop connection, whether you want it or not. You have to make up a fake address on the first screen to fool it and then use the real gmail address later.

I know I'm doing it right because I set up my other gmail account without an issue following step by step the instructions on the Gmail website. I thought as a work around I would download the gmail application but for some reason after installing running and logging in, when it tries to get my emails it stops and says that my phone doesn't support it because I don't have the required certificate. Does anyone know what this means? I don't want to have to go online everytime I want to check my second account.
