EDIT: ( 5/23/2008 ) I Have added the S3 Cube Edit Application that can be downloaded at the bottom of this post along with the S3 Cube. I have also added Icon Pack 1, its small but it will fill that last side for now. more to come soon!




Okay, this was a couple of days in the making and it is my first attempt at making a cube for the Vogue so be nice. The reason i put this together was becuase i really liked Polen's Vista Cube 2.0 and once the new Roms with GPS and REV-A came out it wouldnt work correctly. Thanks to Musicman247 there was a fix found and he updated his WONDERFUL Cubes.

I would actually like to take this time and give a HUGEEEE thanks to Musicman247's tutorial on how to make/skin cubes becuase it helped a lot in my process. Also to Polen for creating the Vista Cube 2.0 to give me this idea.

Anyway, now to the good stuff...

When you press the button in it looks like the button is actually being pressed into the phone.

I have created 2 versions of this Cube as you will see below.

the first only has 3 sides. NO Media Hub ( i didnt like it, i like more buttons as you can see)

the second has 4 sides, i left one blank becuase i will be making more icons in the future and i actually use that last side for internet favorites myself.

NOTE: THE CUBE HAS BETTER QUALITY IMAGES, when i made the Gif file it downgraded the image quality for some reason.


as you notice i did not make the buttons part of the animations becuase well i just wanted to get this out ASAP, if there is a HUGGGE request for it i can fix it up so it will have the buttons as the cube turns as well.

i left it like this so that you can change the apps when i release new icon packs. - this might take a while becuase the cube is basically one giant gradiant (goes from dark (bottom left hand corner) to light (top right hand corner)) i will have a special request format ongoing in this thread - i will explain in the next post or two...

Below i have attatched the two different CAB installers, the blank .BMP images so people can make their own icons if they want, and also some .PSD files in case you have photoshop.

I would also like to say that some of the buttons on the cube will not work unless you have certian apps installed:

Bluetooth= moBlue
IM= Oz Messenger
Live Search= Live Search
GMaps= Google Maps
Java=Jbed (from the newest 3.02 kitchen)

NOTE: if you are using the Alltel rom and want to uninstall this RUN THE INSTALLER AGAIN. it will tell you it needs to uninstall the previous version, it will give you a failed message, but continue anyway. at the end it will fail but you will have to soft reset and it will be uninstalled.

I have written a small app with the help of MusicMan247 that will simplify changing icons and apps for your S3 Cube.

This is very similar to the original Cube Editor.

First Download S3 Cube Edit at the bottom of the post, Unzip, and move the .CAB file to your phone. Run it and it will install.

Once installed you will find it in your programs folder.

When you open it you will see a screen like this:

What you need to do is from the dropdown box at the top, click a side you want to edit. If you downloaded the 4 sided S3 cube Side 3 is the blank side. if you downloaded the 3 sided S3 cube, you will nto need to use side 3.

Once you choose the side, click on what box you want to edit and it will bring you to this screen:

From here you will need to change the paths of the application, icon path, and icon press path.

Hit Save, repeat for all the boxes and one your done hit File and Exit.

Make sure to do a soft reset!!!

REMEMBER TO EXTRACT ICONS TO

\WINDOWS\S3 CUBE\ICONS


When you are applying new icons, refur to the image above to see what number it applies to. You will see 12 icons numberd 0 to 11 and 0HL to 11HL in the zip file.

If you want to put an icon in the top left, use the Icon_0.brn and Icon_0HL.brn files.

you can, but you will have to regedit them to a different directory and they wont have the affect of the S3 Cube - i will post an example of the affect when you press the button in the first post...

i edited the first post so you can see an example of the effect on the S3 Cube

The animation when the button is pressed absolutely rocks!!! I wont be downloading the files now, I'm going to test my patience and wait for the complete package lol. I'm sure its going to be a revelation! Way to go mate, keep up the good work! :)

i d/l the cube but there are no icons??? it's all blank. Can someone please post a completed cube just like the vista 2.0 cube?

the cab files i provided should set the icons to the ones shown in the images in the first post... what ROM are you running?

I'm running the new sprint 302 rom from the kitchen. I just reinstalled it. I will post the results shortly

Same results, the page to add contacts look fine but when I rotate the cube, all the other sides are blank

I didnt wait at all. I'll try it again and give it some time.... still nothing after a minute. Does this have to install on top of the original htc cube? Because I did not have a cube to begin with. I left it out while using the kitchen

spin it then wait for about 2 seconds, they should appear... (they wont be visable as the cube is spinning)

for some reason when you first open the cube and spin it, the icons are delayd about a second... i gotta run but ill check back later today hopefully

I am using the ALTEL ROM on Sprint Vouge. I installed the cube that has fours sides. The side with phone shortcuts does not have the + sign so that I can add contacts. Also none of the shortcuts on the buttom work. Is there anything I do apart from installing the cab file.

I guess I should have waited a bit more and just gone with your cube as opposed to Polen's vista cube 2.0. I also upgraded my ROM and I am just about finished customizing my cube just needed a couple of more icons, I was going to post in the cube icons thread if you could work your magic and then I find THIS!! No disrespect to Polen but this one is a bit more elaborate, however editing the reg's will be a lot harder, for now I'll stick with Polen's cube (which also kicks arse!!!) In the meantime, Spunk3 could you make a couple icons for the VC2.0? Here are my requests:


Garmin XT (GPS)
Audio Manager
A Brazilian Flag (it's for a portuguese dictionary app)
The AEBPlus btton settings logo
HTC Home Customizer
dF task manager
Reg Editor (traditional dissolving cube would be OK)
GPS Viewer (a compass maybe?)
TV Guide logo (great app btw, available in their site)

Great job!
Just a suggestion... Have you tried making the background darker to make the icons stand out more... possibly even a charcoal or black? I really like your icons.

lol, o boy that would require pretty much an entire re-work of the artwork, maybe if i make another 1 ill keep that in mind, but for the S3 cube i think its just gunna be the gradient i have applied lol.

i think it actually looks better once installed compared to tho's gif images but maybe in the future

thanks spunk3! i'll keep checking back for the icons, and i guess i'll install your cube once i upgrade to the official rom! let's just hope polen waits a bit longer to release vista cube 3.0, lol!

Looks and functions great. I downloaded and installed the 4 sided cube. Any hacks or way to start populating the fourth side of the cube?

not yet, its a pain in the butt making the icons for each box on the cube, lets say you want to put a Resco explorer icon in the lower left box, but someone wants theres in the upper right box, i have to make each icon for all 12 spots, i havnt found much time to get this done but i am working as much as i can... keep checking for updates

Just a tip for those who want to use the blank 4th side for programs there are no icons for yet:

in the Registry in APLauncher3>App#

In the String Value "Name" you can put any text you would like in it. It will then show up in the box without a picture for the button.
Then just put the Program's path in "Path".
Soft reset and viola! You have text buttons instead of pictures on the last side.

I am going to install it because I loved Polen's but can't get it to work right on my Alltel with the new rom. One suggestion... don't use a gradient in your next cube, or the rework of this one. It makes it harder for us to share icons and harder for you to create them. Though it does look great, I think the gradient limits the usefulness of the cube. Just my 2 cents, great work though!
