Sprint Touch on verizon -roaming and data issues
 

Hi all, I have a Sprint Touch which I have activated on Verizon's network and am using the stock ROM that is available here. I am able to use voice and txt services. However I am unable to use the data connection. I am getting unknown error. I have entered my user/pass in the #777 network settings. What else?

Also the phone is not showing Verizon Wireless at the top it says Preferred System and is showing the little triangle at the top to indicate roaming. All incoming calls also say Incoming Roaming. I have my home tower in the SID in EPST. I cannot program with *22899 I get the music and then "I'm sorry you phone is unable to be programmed". I am able to program with *228. What am I missing here? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

make sure you have a verizon prl

I am, I just double checked and I have the 51020.prl, I downloaded and loaded it again to make sure and still the same Preferred System and the roaming triangle.

I have done this as well. If I hadn't I wouldn't be able to activate with *228

BTW, I am cloned to my old Samsung i730, don't think that matters though

Hmmm correct me if i am wrong but doesn't regular phones use a different way to log on to data services? So maybe it is not enabled the proper way for you?

I believe you are right but the i730 is a PDA with WM5 on it.

Anyone that can help on this? I have upgraded the radio and I am using OMJ's ROM. Still no data and Preferred System with roaming triangle. As for the data I tried the re-authentication #(forget the num) was waiting for 30 minutes and eventually I hung up. I am guessing my M.I.P settings are screwed up. Or I need VZW to send a new dmu. Thanks for any info

I have no idea if this will help you at all, but when i flashed to a custom rom, then back to the stock verizon (my touch is verizons tho) i had the same problems, and had to call #8899 and get a tech support person. I did this twice. The first time the guy just did something to my phone from his end and when i hung up it worked. The second time a lady gave me a code that i put into a field in the #PST place.

Read this thread you need to edit the mip settings and upload a vzw public dmu key. http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=20090 Also, *22899 doesn't work on most converted phones just use *228 option 1 for intial programming. This is how you set up the dmu if its a new esn in the system try this and if it doesn't work (due to Ha/AAA errors from to the cloning) call in and tell them you are getting ppp error 11 after a hard reset and ask for a dmu reset AFTER you have loaded the dmu public key. If you look in the dmu folder in qpst or bitpim you will see its empty on a sprint phone load the vzw 10.key I included in my post.

Sweet that worked, thanks, I didn't even have to do the dmu key thing, just changed the M.I.P settings. I now have data on my touch!!
Any idea on the Preferred System Roaming thing? It is really annoying when an incoming call says Incoming Roaming Call Roaming Charges May Apply. Sometimes it even covers the caller id. The triangle bugs me too but not as much as the Caller ID thing. Thanks again!

Nope havent figured out how to get it off my moguls on vzw, Search here for "personalizer" and you can write in verizon wireless instead of preferred network. Be sure to press the thanks button.

Well it did work for a day now it is not working. I loaded the DMU key in the DMU folder, but it still won't connect for unknown reason. I also double checked the M.I.P. settings you provided. Any suggestions? Thanks

Make sure the cloned i730 is not powered on ever. Call Vzw tech support tell them you are getting PPP error #11 after a hard reset and ask for a dmu reset. They will have you turn the radio off and reset your dmu network side. Do not mention its not a native vzw phone or anything about the cloning.

Good luck I've tried everything I can think of and can't get the roam triangle off my sprint to vzw converts. I use them as backups and have learned to live with it as it doesnt affect the operation of the phone at all just a little annoying.

Just wonder what they would say if they saw an old ppc the i730 you have cloned getting evdo rev A at the network switch (its hardware only supports rev 0) and none of vzw's pda's are offically rev A enabled just our data cards.

Seems we need a PRI update from a PPST in a official verizon update to fix the roam triangle on 6800 and 6900 from another carrier used on VZW.

Yeah VZ will probably never release an update. I don't know why they refuse to release updates for their devices.
I lost my data connection again... I upgraded to OMJ's latest VZ ROM and now can't connect. Getting unknown error again. It was working on the earlier ROM version. I double and triple checked the MIP settings. I even had VZ do a DMU reset. Made sure I have the 10.key in DMU folder. I guess I will try to go back to the previous ROM and see if that helps. Any suggestions?

The cloning of the phone is causing ha & aaa authentication errors if it is turned on. Why don't you get the esn loaded in properly so this will stop happening instead of playing around with a clone and having data go in and out not to mention its illegal.

OK I will heed your advice. I called and they say I have to take it to a store to have them 'look' at it. Regardless if I know more about the device then them. Does this mean I failed at having them add it over the phone and will have to complete a non vzw device activation form and ship it in for approval? I really don't want to be without a phone for a few weeks. I might have an old junkier around to use. Should I try again? I told the first guy it was an alltel device and the second guy asked if it was a sprint device and I said yes. Was this where I went wrong? Thanks again.

I've added sprint before with some hassle but altell is much easier to get on so you should always have an "altell" phone when you call in as a sprint phone will not OTA program without a msl unlock and reset to all 0's like verizon and altell and some techs will refuse sprint period due to this. Lets hope they didn't notate that on your account or you may have to mail your phone to the DEC.

Talked to 3 different people that said it can't be done. I was as persistent as I could be without making them mad. I am going to keep calling. I wish I knew someone in the support department that could help. I refuse to send my device in for a min of 3 weeks. Sucks I flashed the newer ROM and lost the data. Oh well guess I will have to cancel it. Its a shame because the Touch isn't much without the data.

This is written for sprint but use these programs to read the HA & AAA secret from your i730 (not sure about compatabilty with i730 but put it in pass-through modem mode think its **upath on wm5 i730 or **path on wm2003 i730) You need both the ha & aaa for vzw. Else you could get data work again from a dmu reset they use qxdm to read and copy your ha & aaa so you can rewrite after flash. However this shouldn't be necessary unless you turned to i730 on or changed radios.

I can't get to the thread that is listed above. I have a sprint touch pro on verizon and can't get my data to work. Keeps deleting my username and password. Get data for just a couple seconds then stops. Also have the roaming triangle. Tried updating the PRL but that doesn't seem to fix the problem.

Looking for the public DMU fix or the MIP settings.

i always had the roaming triangle when i put a sprint vogue on verizon... couldnt be helped no matter what i did and i tried a lot. Never got billed for roaming though.

buddhatikkigod, looks like right now i'm exactly in the same problem that you are...

however, i know that you can fix the roaming triangle very easy just by using a modified prl so it can work well with the sprint PRI that your pro has right now. There's thread where here in the forum where you can find this PRL. if you don't find it, just tell me.

So, you had the data working one day?... how did you get the DMU keys?.... everywhere people mentions this keys (and upload them) they erase the link to download them. I'm looking for those keys :

P.D. ok, i cloned an old LG VX8300... you did it with a windows mobile phone. Do you really think there's no possibility to make this work?
