I pulled it out of the PPCKitchen.org's new Kitchen and thats version 3.0.26.12c. I can't find that version but found this thread with the setup:

You guys are the best! That thread sorted me out. Now I can receive AND send on my verizon xv6900.

Interestingly, the 'user agent' registry field was different in that thread then what I had in my registry and I also discovered a second X-carrier-VDN entry for Altell (which must have come with the altell ROM). After changing the user agent and deleting the altell-VDN, everything worked.
