No point of an official Rev A.
I know there has a been a few threads on this..
But I would like to comment about this subject.. I am absolutely loving this new Rev A. with JD's Rom.. GPS is flawless, I use Telenav and used the ATT tilts version.. Works awesome! The entire options with windows 6.1 is great.. The phone is stable and it seemed to work out a lot of bugs I had before.. That said, I feel if sprint released their version of the Rev A. I would have NO POINT to get it. Is this how I should be thinking? I mean what's the point of an official Rev A. if this one works flawless? Thanks |
Re: No point of an official Rev A.
well, an official release is probably still needed.
The titan was the same way, and when the officil rom came out, the GPS worked a thousand times better. The same will go for the touch. What will happen, is when the official rom comes out, it will make for more stable cooked rom's. I agree with you, but an official release will only make things better for the unofficial cooked roms, which in turn means more happy ppcgeekerz |

How could it work better though? just curious as I cannot see what is not working flawlessly right now?

The same exact thing happened on the titan, then the official release came along, and out ,and now pretty much every mogul user has reliable GPS |
Re: No point of an official Rev A.
Eh, using OMJ's rom, everything is working fine. I miss my Sprint TV, but have a Cab around here for that somewhere.

Re: No point of an official Rev A.
Let's not forget that you won't get any support with a non-official ROM. That reason alone is why, when practical, you should run the latest and greatest ROM from the carrier.*
*Of course, this is completely reliant on the carrier/mfr to provide the userbase with a stable, feature-rich device ROM, which frankly could be the first of Neveruary with Sprint. |

Re: No point of an official Rev A.
i still dont think they'll release an official radio and rom update.
doesnt sprint make money off of their little sprint nav crap? and i dont think their network is efficient enough right now for a mass rev a upgrade for any of their phones. |

sprint does make money off of telenav, so i dont see a reason for them not to support it. |
Re: No point of an official Rev A.
i think they will but just as they did w/ mogul they'll drag feet and miss promised dates before giving it to ya...
|
Re: No point of an official Rev A.
i thought someone said that the release date was going to be 5/7 or am i just tripping
|
Re: No point of an official Rev A.
well anyone can say it.. but it just depends who that anyone was... when rev a hit the mogul there were quite a few 'sprint techs' floating around the forums touting 'firm intel' on release dates that came and went...

Today I use the gps with live search, google maps and sprint nav. I always seemed to connect fast and didn't use the gps viewer. Maybe the Bay Area has a good sky. The Telenav software for the Vogue will not connect to the gps. It looks for a BT Receiver. I've been using the Telenav software for a while and really like it. I found a SprintNav cab and installed it. (this is also telenav software) With the SprintNav my inturnal gps was found and workes great. I find that the SprintNav is not the same as the Telenav. SprintNav that I installed does not give you traffic in the map view. The menu option where view traffic should be seems to be missing some choices. I only have [Go To Cursor] [Save Location] [2D or 3D Map]. The only way to zoom in or out is by the graphic slider that shows on the map. Also the SprintNav doesn't have a full screen option. Anyway, it the ATT version works on the Vogue I would like to try it. I'm sure that Telenav will update their software sometime up the road. I drive almost all day and do miss not having the traffic on the moving 2D map. ****** I found the cab. Just had to search the site a little. ********** |
Re: No point of an official Rev A.
It's the year 2045 and according to Sprint the Touch rom update will be out soon. Some of those waiting for the Rom update back in 2008 are according to my understanding now in nursing homes still waiting for the Sprint Rom update for their Touch........hmmmm NOT good!!!

I can tell you this; I am glad we have it now and don't HAVE to wait for Sprint. :) |
Re: No point of an official Rev A.
I brick my touch, make sprint give me a new one. don't feel bad about it, sprint should update to rev a and gps to begin with so i don't have to go thru all this. love my new phone with gps and rev a. :)

Re: No point of an official Rev A.
Well. My GPS works FLAWLESS!! I use telenav (I still don't know WHY ANYONE wouldn't) I don't mess with those other crappy versions for GPS only the best!
|
Re: No point of an official Rev A.
Dammit I wish I was as smart as you guys so I could do all that to my Touch! Oh well, I guess I will just have to get satisfaction from knowing you guys are happy. lol

Most of us have to prime our GPS by using GPS viewer before live search or google maps or Tom Tom work. While I think these guys are doing tremendous work, these are still just hacks to get any GPS action on the phone. I think once an official rom comes from Sprint or Verizon they'll be able to improve upon it significantly but at the moment their images are only as good as the images that resemple our phones. |

Re: No point of an official Rev A.
Sprint will throw us a bone in their own time. They are probably more focused on the two replacement phones for the touch and mogul. I'm just grateful to have a great forum like ppcgeeks which enable me to get the most out of my device with or without the help of Sprint.

Re: No point of an official Rev A.
When the official release from Spring finally comes out will we still have to do the same process of flashing the rom to get it on our phones? Or will it be a much easier process so we won't have to worry about "Bricking" our phones?
|
Re: No point of an official Rev A.
there is always a "brick" potential so to speak, the chances of bricking it with an official release are usually much smaller.
|
Re: No point of an official Rev A.
I noticed after this GPS/REv.A came out all the ROMs 6.1 I've tried are way more stable than it was before without GPS/Rev.A
|
Re: No point of an official Rev A.
Well.............. we are in may and we are about to get the rom update. Maybe this Monday? Usually all rom updates are released on Mondays. Cross your fingers or throw salt behind you underwear and lets all join hands and just prey. " Hummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm"

Re: No point of an official Rev A.
I hope everyone realizes this was an official Rev A update, its not a leaked rom like the first sprint one for titan. The only difference is this one wasn't even advertised as being GPS ready. Well, that and its from alltel instead of sprint so if you mean for "your" carrier that can mean something i guess. Id suggest checking out the kitchen though after the 2.31 unlocker and the alltel update's radio.
