Adding a Background Pic to the HomeScreen
 
When I go to add a background picture to the home screen it is always quite opaque and hard to see. Is there anyway around this?

You need to go to where your pictures are stored, open it, hit menu and then select set as background then it will show you your pic with some shaded areas on the left and right along with a box with a % field set at zero for the least "shading" and 100 for the most
