GPS Receiver installed ?
 

A good friend just purchased a Sprint Touch. I have a Sprint Mogul. When I purchased the Mogul it had an internal GPS which was not firmware activated. Does the Sprint Touch also have GPS internal receiver and antenna? It does not seem to have an external GPS antenna jack which is visible on the Mogul. If the Sprint Touch has an internal GPS receiver are there any rumors about a Firmware update to allow Google Maps to access it? Thanks.

The absolute kindest thing you are likely to hear is "search the forum" =)
There is plenty of discussion about this exact topic.

Short answer is that there is a GPS chipset, no it is not activated and yes we are allllll anxiously waiting for an update which possibly enables the GPS.

Until then (or in case it never happens!) I have bought a keychain size GPS unit (thanks flyhighusa!) which should work just fine...

Also, I believe the external jack is for a normal cellular antenna, not a GPS antenna.

Hi psweitzer, Thank you for the nice reply. I guess I tried to search the forum for "GPS" and found no mention of "GPS". I must be using the search function wrong. Would you be kind enough to send me a link how I could find the other postings? I always try to search a forum for my answer before I post a question, but I found nothing. Thanks for the nice note. I have a small external GPS BlueTooth Receiver I will offer to loan my friend. I used it with my Mogul before I got the firmware update. When he was making the purchase decision, I advised him that it tooklong time for Sprint to activate the GPS in the Mogul and I assume it might also take a long time or never for the Touch. Your answer about the Chip set was the important answer. The waiting is always an unknown. Thanks again. David

Tip for ya david737: the advanced search is a little more complete and easier to search with than the general. hope that helps:)
