Just flashed to JD's 6.1... question about reception...

Hey guys... thanks a lot for your help. I've just gone through the entire upgrade process, and I have this to say. The reception has increased tremendously here at home. Previously, I would have to use a headset and sit in specific places in my apt in order to prevent the call from dropping.

But after upgrading to 6.1, I have NO issues whatsoever with calls dropping. I can walk around my whole apt and the call would stay perfectly on. So here's my question... Does the old ROM's software have something to do with degrading the reception?

I'm just glad this issue is resolved. BTW, I had a PPC-6700 in the past, and the same thing would happen in my apt until I upgraded to WM6.

You know, I had the same thing happen after flashing to one of the other custom roms. I didnt think anything of it because from the way I understand it these custom roms dont include a radio upgrade so in a sense it doesnt seem like it should change reception.

Since then im using another rom but am thinking of going back to that one to test it more. I kinda chalked it up to it not displaying the reception correctly, although my call quality did seem a little better.. :???:

Which ROM did you notice better reception with? Which ROM are you using now?

I haven't noticed much of a difference in any 6.1 ROM I've tried, but then again I have good reception all around me.

The ROMs don't include radio upgrades, but some of them might have different reg edits.

I know with my 700wx, if I turned off the "receive incoming beams" settings I seemed to get better reception by a couple of dB's.

It was ghettofreeryder's "Generic_Vista_613a", I went from 1-2 bars in my room to 3-4.. 3 bars is a very rare thing in my room and I dont think Ive ever saw 4 bars in here..lol

I flashed to another rom to see if it showed its usual 1-2 bars and it did. Im probably going to try out ghettofreeryder's again this week. Let me know if you've tried it or decide to try it, I'd like to know if someone else notices this.

To add to the discussion, I have had more dropped calls since switching to sprint, though calls subsequent to 6.1 flashing have been impecable. Not a single dropped call since flashing! Highly noticable.

Not sure if this has to do with ROMs. but I was a nextel member for 4yrs, switched to Sprint March 19.. March 22 I noticed the first problem.. but I was still running Stock ROM. And now is like all the text messages from T-Mobile users only 5/10 arrive to my inbox and the other 5 are lost somewhere.

I can confirm this with ghettofreeryder's rom. Noticeable improvement in signal strength on v 615. Haven't tried 613. 611 or 612 that i was on before had the same signal strength and dropped calls as stock rom, or stock rom with 6.1.

Are you guys just going by the number of bars? I doubt the actual signal stregnth (the RSSI reading in ##DEBUG#) is any better, that would probably only get better with a new radio ROM.

I've always done the power hacks that Ghetto has in his ROM, and I also turn off the "always receive incoming beams" setting--which does seem to improve signal stregnth.

Ive been going by bars but it does seem to work better for me also, with my normal one bar I would get a very slow evdo connection. But now it seems to be zipping along alot better. Im going to check out that ##debug# that you mention, I didnt think of looking in there..
