Re: Android For The Vogue Is Here!!!

The only way I was able to get data was make a data connection prior to starting Android. Though when you drop it, you have to restart... Better than nothing though

Re: Android For The Vogue Is Here!!!

Once they reach the point where they believe they can make a flashable ROM with this, and there are actually plug-ins (linux apps,) available for this OS, then I'd probably jump ship... it's pretty smooth so far...

Then again, WM7 looks pretty promising as well, with much more compatibility... hard to say at this point... The biggest factor here is the "I have Android on my phone, and you don't/can't"

I am in the I will try android out camp, but it better be ready to impress when the final build is out. Not to mention I need a slew of apps to fulfill my winmo gap.

Re: Android For The Vogue Is Here!!!

I have been trying it out on my okta touch here in NZ and it runs smooth as graphics etc are amazing.

In the future I see myself running both WM and Android. Android for day to day use and WM when I need an app that you can only get on WM.

I don't see why a dual boot system isn't possible. Essentially this is what we get at the momment with this 'alpha' proof of concept.

Thanks to Dzo at massey uni for all the hard work.

Re: Android For The Vogue Is Here!!!

This android project is looking very promising. I do have one question however, no disrespect meant towards the creator of the vogue version but is he coding this from the ground up?

I ask because i've been watching videos and there seems to be builds out there that's working flawlessly but it seems like we are playing in catchup mode.

I know he is making sweet progress because I remember I had installed it back when there was no touch screen support and all you could do was just browse the icons. Now we've got sms, voice, data sort of and touch screen. All in just a month or two.

Android is gonna be the new thing. Now phone makers can just research the hardware. The millions who are on the android project can take care of the software.

I think google just nailed the final f.......u...... into the backs of current software os monopolists.

Exciting stuff.

Re: Android For The Vogue Is Here!!!

From what I've read on XDA, I think he is coding it fromo the ground. I've installed all the new files on my vogue, and I must say I'm really impressed. He fixed the browser, and I used it for about 6 hours on a full charged battery. I received my text msgs and phone calls. Also the maps app is pretty nifty, I managed to search for pizza spots and it gave me a turn-by-burn direction. I have to say that this is extremely promising.

Re: Android For The Vogue Is Here!!!

Observation about Data Connection in Bootup Screen:

Ok, I am pretty sure I have no business commenting on the coding, but I noticed something that looks kind of strange. I think it's pretty obvious that the data connection that I am able to use is only residual from the open connection in Windows. It seems that android is not making its own connection despite what I have entered in default.txt

default.txt has a command line for username/password which for Verizon Wireless is:
username=10digitMTN@vzw3g.com
password=vzw

When android is booting, the cmdline shows the ppp username/password. This is visible on the bottom of the tuxscreen. What seemed strange is that it says, "username=10digitMTN@vzw3g.com password==vzw"

There is 2 Equal Signs in the Password. however in my default.txt there is only 1 equal sign. Just to goof around, I removed the equal sign from default.txt and booted linux, now no password appears at all (so I obviously didn't fix anything)

For all I know having 2 "=" is perfectly ok, or has nothing to do w/ anything, but it seemed strange. Anyone know something about this?

Sorry if this is a silly post, but sometimes even the slightest thing can go unnoticed and make a big difference.
