SMS To: field autocomplete?
 

does anyone elses To: field have an autocomplete list of contact names as you're typing them?

mines doesn't and i haven't been able to figure out where to enable it.

i tried the registry hack:

HKLM>System>Inbox>RecipientAutoComplete and change value of the DWORD MaxSuggestions.

it has no affect though.. anyone care to help?

Are you using the Touch keyboard? I remember reading about issues with other keyboards not bringing up that option.

yeah i just did a quick google search and it appears it's because XT9 disables this option.. question is, how to disable Xt9 to get this feature enabled again.

i used the standard windows keyboard.

i found this which has no resolution though.

been wondering the same thing myself since I started using the touchpal keyboard. It is a bit of a nuisance to click on menu then add recipient every time I want to text a new person.

your fears are over, i found out how to work around this.. i learned that i usually waste my time posting here asking questions only to always find the solution myself.

the culprit is Xt9, when it's enabled it disables sms name lookup, so disable XT9 and whalla.

instructions... browse registry:

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Layouts\e001 0409\Ime File

set the Ime File value from \windows\eT9ime.dll to compime.dll

soft reset device.

Just tried that and it doesn't work for TouchPal.

My Touch Keyboard would auto-complete and now after making this change it still does, it just does it differently.

I tried it and it did work with TouchPal. You just need to either add or delete the space after you enter the name and it comes up with a list!

That's funny that you mentioned hitting the delete button after entering the name because it works without doing the registry hack above.

I wondered why it worked sometimes and not others.

which would work only if you have 1 mike in the phone book. Most people probably have way too many people with the same name in their phone. Does that reg hack only affect xt9 in the name field? i dont want to turn it off for typing, just the contact field.

The only issue I really have with this hack is while it activates prediction for the names in the SMS To field, it also activates prediction with all other keyboards. Now with TouchPal I have both the TouchPal suggestions and the built in word suggest popping up at the same time. Quite annoying.

I noticed the same thing, so I disabled the touchpal prediction, and now my phone displays predictions even while I'm in precise input mode (which I happen to like, but thats just me)

The hack worked for me, but the pop up list that appears is at the very top of my screen and the first two contacts are hidden by the start title bar. Does anyone else have this issue and is it possible to shift the popup list?

Im using TouchPal v3 & the autocomplete isnt working for me.

Hack works for me with TouchPal v3 and usually have to delete once, but have the trouble with the first couple of contact in the popup list being hidden by the title bar as mentioned above.

autocomplete works for me. using pcm just type the name and itll pop up. on touchpal type the name and if you use add space after word, then hit backspace and itll pop up.

anyone found a solution for this? how to make the list show up lower. I know some builds have it show up just above the keyboard. maybe someone that has it like that can tell us what some of their registry keys look like. :scratch:
