Battery Efficient Push?

Is there a push email service that doesn't kill your battery? Or is that sort of inherent to the technology.

My battery last just as long (if not longer) using DirectPush from Exchange as when I was doing scheduled send/receive every 30 minutes.

Are there any alternatives to those who don't have access to an exchange server?

I think true push should do nothing to your battery, as it is not querying the server, the server pushes it to the phone, having your mail query the server every couple minutes is what takes a toll on the battery.

Are there any "true" push services besides running your own exchange server?
