No ringtone just a hissing sound
 

For some reason my phone is only making a hissing sound instead of playing the ringtone when I receive a call. It wakes and displays the caller info dialogue correctly but all I can hear is a slight hiss from the speaker. I dont use any phone utilities other than Call Block, and use only OEM ringtones. I have had Call Block on there for sometime. If I hard reset and dont install anything it will ring. If I do a restore from Sprite backup then my problem is back.

Is it playing other sounds, just the ringtone is missing, or is are all sounds gone?

No all the other sounds on the device work.

It would have to be some type of malfunction in the ROM or apps that you are using. Something may have edited the registry. What if you change the ringtone to something else, does the new ringtone play?

nope. I tried changing ringtones and it won't play it.

That sucks, but I would try cleaning it back to sprint and then re doing everything one at a time. It might be a registry setting but it may not be findable.

Is the ring volume turned up? If you tap on the speaker icon in the task bar at the top. Is the volume slider on the right turned up?

I do this while at work when listening to music. I have the sounds on so i get them through my headset, but have the ringer off so it doesn't ring through the speaker.

Also go into your Sounds and Notifications settings and verify that the Incoming call event ring type is not set to 'none'.

I'm guessing your text alerts still play? If so then I have the same exact problem as you mg. And I have tried EVERYTHING as I'm sure you have. That happens to my phone about once every week. After the first time it happened I tried to revert with sprite but the problem returned after the restore so I started with a clean slate and installed all my apps on by one. I tested the ringer after every app and everything was fine. I perform a backup about every 2 days now so when the problem returns because it always does I just restore to the last know good backup. I still have yet to figure out what I do to make the ringer stop working. I actually posted about this before but it was just a different symptom of this same problem. I don't know if you noticed but when your ringer stops working, the ringtone preview sounds (which still work for some reason) are much quieter.

I have the same exact problem. It is driving me nuts. Someone must be able to figure this out. I hate hard resetting once a week.

try assigning the ringtone to each contact and see what happens...

there is an app out there call tonemanager that can assign ringtones base on contact categories
