How do I install an app that is not a CAB file? (HTC Random Access)

How do I install apps like this? I've searched high and low for HTC Random Access as a cab but its nowhere to be found. This zip is passed around a lot and it contains:

Code:

It looks like you've got the wrong file.
It appears to be an OEM package for those who want to make their own roms.

Anyways, if it wasn't a cab file, but it was an exe, just connect the touch to the PC, make sure activesync is active and then open the exe file and it will install on your touch.

just wanted to clarify here for sawce's sake. most of the time opening the exe will not install anything (although it does sometimes) but rather just run the program (exe).

like thejinx0r said, you look to have an oem on your hands, and the only way to install that is to cook it into a rom -- there are many custom roms out there with this program already installed.

as for how to manually install from an oem, simply place the exe wherever the .lnk shortcut points to on your wm device, put the .lnk shortcut in \windows\start menu\programs, make the required registry edits with a mobile registry editor, and put the .png image files in the \windows folder (really not sure on this last part here).

to fully get it going you will probably then have to download a program (or do the reg edits yourself) that will change the softkeys in the today screen so that the right softkey "contacts" points to the new contacts app you want rather than the original stock one.
schaps advanced config can do this and much more.

good luck!

but im pretty sure there is a cab for this somewhere...

Thanks there it is! I searched for it in a few places, I could only find a zip without cab. Seems you found it here:

theres now one in my folder on the ftp, though im not sure its the latest/most updated version. you should be able to download the ppcgeeks_oem.rar from ppckitchen.org -> manual downloads and find it (along with a MILLION other things) in there and it will be the latest or close to it.
