There are two ways to get SW on the phone.
1. download the .cab file directly to the phone, email it to the phone ... and install from there.
2. install the file on you computer (must be .exe) and then sync the device using active sync (a free download from sprint or on the cd that came with it.) upon syncing it will install the program to the device.

This helped me alittle more detail........
For the other newbees out there this is what i did......
  1. Download the CAB or Zip file to your pc then drag and drop or copy the cab file (open the zip to get the cab) via activesync to your device. Do not open the CAB file as if it is a ZIP file.
  2. On your device, launch your file explorer and locate the CAB file.
  3. Tap on the CAB file to start installation.
Hope this might help someone else out there...........

Can the CAB file be removed after the application is installed?

Yes, unless you will ever need to install it again in the future.

WinRAR can handle ZIP files just fine, for a free option look for "7Zip" which can also handle ZIP and most other archive formats.
