Erratic email checking?
 

Looking for some ideas/answers to why my email has not been checking consistently on the schedule I set. Sometimes my phone will be on all day and I will not see any new emails. Then the next day I will reboot the phone and a whole bunch of emails from yesterday will show up. And other days it seems to get my emails as scheduled every 30 minutes. I do lock the phone and put it in standby most of the day. I notice it likes to check my email mostly when I give it attention, turn it on and off, or use programs. But the phone should still check my mail when it is in standby and locked right? This is on the Sprint Touch

I have some of the same issues with the phone. Sometimes I even get an error message that says it will not download new messages and I have to reboot. I am getting a new one as soon as I get off my A$$ and go get it, I will let you know if I am still having the issues.

when i first got my touch i had it set to push, and i got notifications by email asap.. an same thing with my 30 minute checks.. it worked fine.. then i think i did something to kinda delay it to where it might every now an then not get them.. i think it might have something to do with the software we are running on the phone.. but now the e-mail works fine

my live mail never pushes consistently either so I just set up s mail2go account and that works perfectly.
skip the live push it is totally inconsistent.

I don't use the push email anyway because I don't like being bothered with every single email I get. I'd rather just look at 10 at once every hour. But I think I have discovered the right path to a solution. It seems that the phone will not check email when it is in standby mode. It has to wake itself up to check email. One of my email accounts takes a long time to connect and download mail, so I think the phone was turning itself off before it could complete the email check. So I changed the power settings to turn the phone off after 2 minutes rather than 1 minute and I seem to be getting my email more consistently. I will give another update after a few days at this setting.

Please do, as this might be my problem. Mine is set to every 5 minutes but it only downloads when I am looking at it watching.

Update: Changing the power settings does improve the results. I have been getting my emails more consistently, although not 100% still. I think I will increase the power off time to 3 minutes.

Update: At 3 minutes my email usually completes download. There are still the occasional times when my finicky email account has not downloaded all day and I must download it manually. This happens maybe once a week now. Much better than before. So this goes to show that the phone must be awake to download email, and that it wakes itself up to check email.
