the last wifi thread, i promise....

so i been reading around, and this wifi battle is getting to my nerves.... so i got this idea.
im willing to void my gay warranty just for a piece of mind(im a baller like that :p)
so im going to open my gay touch and scan the shlt out of it and take pictures to the PCB.

now the question is... is there any high tech ppl that could be able to figure the thing out. perhaps read the PCB for us?

MrOuija36 01-24-2008 02:59 PM

aint eem know my touch had sexual preference... or was male or female.. bout to name it(him/her?) now...

nws86 01-24-2008 04:09 PM

someone has already taken the CDMA vouge(touch) apart. I can't remember where it was. Either here or sprintusers. They had pics of the PCB.

kyppcgeek 01-24-2008 04:26 PM

Post your pictures ASAP!

Wow, he actually did it!!

OK, now we need someone to point out the Wifi hardware...or lack thereof so we can finally put this discussion to rest once and for all. Then maybe this can be made into a sticky :-D

DHarvey 01-25-2008 02:10 AM

Those are some seriously large, high res photos... lol. Hopefully someone here knows enough to see for sure whether or not the hardware is there or not.

gabo1 01-25-2008 01:44 PM

im able to locate the processor and the samsung memory chipset next to it, other than that im lost.. :S

blue4shizzle 01-25-2008 01:57 PM

i'm pretty sure someone already stated that there is no wifi hardware found on the touch

Vogue PICs for filing with FCC (NO WIFI ANTENNA)

https://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/prod/oet/f...ive_or_pdf=pdf

Mogul PICs for filing with FCC (HAS WIFI ANTENNA See page 9)

https://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/prod/oet/f...ive_or_pdf=pdf

They cannot "HIDE" the wifi with software or they would be in trouble with FCC.

There are tons of other docs as well if you want to read them.

Notice that the Mogul also has a SEPERATE antenna for GPS too !! I don't think AGPS uses a seperate antenna is uses CDMA.

Donatom3 01-25-2008 03:45 PM

The Mogul uses AGPS like the Touch does. I believe you're right in that AGPS is supposed to work off of the CDMA antenna though.

Nothing to prevent the Mogul from doing AGPS too. But it's interesting it shows a seperate GPS Antenna as well.

these aren't high res. They just look like zooms on the fcc pics. Still can't make out the PN on the ram. :(

Help me out here. I was told that the HTC Touch is the VOGUE. The HTC website says it has wifi. http://www.htc.com/product/03-product_htctouch.htm I must be in the wrong area. But the above link is the phone I am getting from Alltel. Can someone explain the wifi/ no wifi debate. While I await a reply I will look around.

Thanks
JAy

It's confusing but Sprint chose to call our Vogue...the Touch, but that is a different phone....I believe it's called the Elf, has less RAM, different processor, GSM....

Processor- TI's OMAPâ„¢ 850, 201 MHz

Memory- ROM: 128 MB SDRAM: 64 MB DDR

Network- GSM/GPRS/EDGE

The Sprint Touch

Processor- Qualcomm® MSM7500, 400MHz

Memory- 256 MB ROM, 128 MB RAM

Frequency- CDMA2000 1X/EVDO,EVDO REV A capable

Pibe38 02-04-2008 05:24 PM

It's like this... think of Touch as a marketing/advertising name, you know, Touch... because of the screen, etc.?

In reality it works like this...

GSM Touch = Elf - HAS wifi.
CDMA Touch = Vogue - Sprint's does NOT have wifi (don't know about VZW's or Alltel's to be sincere).

willpower101 02-06-2008 11:40 PM

My bad. Someone pointed me here telling me we could see the part number on the memory. Like a dumb@$$ I didn't read the first post. Sorry. So if you have this thing apart, or could take off the cover realatively easily, could you please tell us the part number of the big samsung memory chip? :notworthy:

cklein6576 02-06-2008 11:49 PM

For the love of all thats good and holy. The mogul has a REAL gps chipset built in. None of this agps bs.

willpower101 02-07-2008 12:10 AM

For one thing, I'm interested in the ram pn to find more information regarding the possibility of a mogul upgrade.

And for another thing, the agps bs you talk about is the same thing that's in the mogul. The Qualcomm msm7500 gpsone chip (read enhanced agps), capable of acting in standalone mode, is the chip that is on both phones!

No Wi-Fi... also having problems with Vista and this phone cannot install software. Got to do a search. I should of went with the 6800......](*,)

Malatesta 02-07-2008 09:12 PM

The post to end all posts...(?)

Here's the deal folks...

The Wifi chip module on the HTC 6800 is this:

http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j2...testa77/ti.jpg

That is: Texas Instruments WL1251

(Edit: Bearxor actually identified it 1st!)

Here are the Mogul pics plus the corresponding plexed BT/Wifi antenna--note it is not very big.

So the question is: does your device (Touch) have this on board? From the pics earlier on in this thread, it appears to be "no" but I cannot be definite.

Any help?

ps Thanks to Murph24 for the Mogul shots

Also: An alternate Wifi chip may be one with these numbers from Atheros:

Re: the last wifi thread, i promise....

interesting that there looks to be a slot for a sd or minisd on the touch right below the microsd slot. could one solder a wifi mini/normal sd chip in and close the case?

DanteDrac 06-06-2008 12:55 PM

Re: the last wifi thread, i promise....

Heh, nice point out zeurx. That is defiantly a SD/MiniSD port. Now we just need some one brave enough to solder a slot/SD card on it and try.......

That area you're looking at is where a sim card would go if these boards were made for GSM networks instead.

Re: the last wifi thread, i promise....

Question though, while we have the pictures up on this forum. Is it possible to solder another MicroSD port in the open bit and have it work.....For example 2 microSD cards?.............I know USB would not have a problem doing such a thing. Any thoughts?

[sammich] 06-09-2008 12:40 AM

Re: the last wifi thread, i promise....

You would have to have an open connection to be able to solder another SD slot. The phone would probably go crazy if you soldered a slot onto the SIM card area.

Re: the last wifi thread, i promise....

just an idea, how about comparing the boards from a gsm elf and the cdma touch and point out the wifi chip and antenna off the gsm elf

DanteDrac 06-09-2008 03:13 AM

Re: the last wifi thread, i promise....

I mean literally using the connector pins from the current SD Card slot and just using them for a new one.....If it has USB it would work, however I am not sure about that SD slot.

Im guessing that the white space above the "MP 6900" is the space for the wifi chip.

dun blame me if im wrong. im just guessing

randomoto 06-12-2008 12:05 AM

Re: the last wifi thread, i promise....

actually that's the space for the built-in camera
