This argument is really detracting from the actual facts so please for the rest of us can you two just shake hands take it as a misunderstanding cuz believe it or not from reading this thread eerhard is on the same side as you cbus he's jus not asking for HTC's head on a platter like some are.

You also did not understand the point of the my writing. It had nothing to do with the comparison of lead based toys and drivers in cell phones! What it did have to do with was simply that the Chinese culture is not used to making good on mistakes or shortcuts they have made on products. In this case ie the lead based toy issue - they had to and also make a public apology. THIS WAS THE POINT - GET IT! I read a recent article with Mr. Chou and he stated that was indeed the case in his culture and he didn't believe in it. In fact he went on to say that in one case he actually went back and redesigned a device and only distributed it after the 3rd generation because he didn't want to launch an inferior product but that he knew that other companies - including his own - would have launched it on the 1st generation and let the problems roll in. My iteration was that we need to build on this and force them to make good - quality products and understand that this is what the consumer wants and expects with large ticket items - being relative to the product. Let's not go backwards!

I remember I was soooo excited when I first bought my sprint vogue. I thought "Damn! this thing is the SHI%." However the more and more I read about the touch and HTC the more I get dissapointed. Really makes me think twice about about the company... I have that same feeling inside that you get when you first start thinking about breaking up with a gal.

wow, this thread turned out well. do you people really not have anything else to worry about? sure, the 6600 outperformed it but it also cost twice as much. im well aware that sling doesnt work all that well, but where in your manual does it tell you about configuring a sling device? orb works fine, so maybe sling should reevaluate their software.

whats funny is that how, a month and a half ago, everyone was gushing about how fast this phone was and such an upgrade over the mogul and 6700. aside from maybe five people, no one had any idea what ati imageon was. now everyone wants to jump on the outrage bandwagon as if someone stole your dolly from you. get over yourselves, if you want a multimedia phone go buy the iphone.

and comparing your phone to breaking up with a woman...wow, just icing on the cake.

I still think the Touch is a good phone. It does have the hardware to be a great phone. My main concern isn't 3D and high res video it's more about the actually UI taking advantage of the graphics hardware. That is something that would be advantageous to everyone using this phone.

But you are right as of right now it's probably the best CDMA Windows Mobile phone out there. It probably gives most GSM Windows Mobile phones a run for their money too. I still won't consider the Iphone over a Windows Mobile phone because the WM phones just do so much more in terms of productivity.

Still... there should be better performance from a newer hand held. Scrolling thru the internet on this thing really sucks badly. Older phones do a much better job. There is definitely something wrong with the drivers.

"if you want a multimedia phone go buy the iphone"

The press release states that the Touch is in fact a multimedia phone amoung other things! I bought the touch because it was supposed to be a good combination of both. For your information, the 6600 was the same price.
The reason people are upset a month and a half later is because the issue is apparent across several fronts and it has taken time to surface.
If your happy - use your phone and move on! If, like the rest of us, you wish to do something about it, send an email, sign the petition and make yourself useful.

the 6600 was $550 fully subsidized. the 6700 was $450, the mogul $300.

dont get me wrong, id like to have these drivers as well as wifi and more memory and all kinds of things that htc could have done, but im not going to complain like a spoiled child that they didnt deliver a feature they didnt advertise.

My corporate rate for the 6600 was $250 on Verizon. Nobody is complaining like a spoiled child. And they did advertise this as a multimedia device. The problem is that the device lacks fluid motion in more than just multimedia. We are looking for them to simply make it smooth which doesn't necessarily mean driver support. ](*,)

Not here to debate or anything like that but Engadget has a new story and it appears they contacted HTC.

Here is the link: http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/25/h...mprove-future/

Doesn't look good.

Here is the reply I got from HTC;

We here at HTC definitely understand your concern about being able to use our devices to their full potential. Below is HTC's official statement with respect to this matter:

“HTC is committed to delivering a portfolio of devices that offer a wide variety of communication, connectivity and entertainment functionality. HTC does not offer dedicated or optimized multimedia devices and can confirm that its Qualcomm MSM7xxx-based devices do not use ATI’s Imageon video acceleration hardware.

HTC believes the overall value of its devices based on their combination of functionality and connectivity exceeds their ability to play or render high-resolution video. These devices do still provide a rich multimedia experience comparable to that of most smartphones and enable a variety of audio and video file formats.

HTC values its customers and the overall online community of mobile device enthusiasts and fans. HTC plans to include video acceleration hardware in future video-centric devices that will enable high-resolution video support.”

Thank you for your inquiry,
HTC Technical Support

If I read this right our devices are capable but not optimized for reasons we don't know.
Still hoping they fix it.
