Is there any [free] way to export the palmMsgV001 file to csv or any other format viewable on a desktop comp?

No one knows/does this? kinda find that hard to believe.... :-(

It might be in a pdb format, so you'll need to convert it to something else.

This is my suspicion, and I am investigating the same.

Thanks,
Michael

From the previous posts I have read, no way has been discovered to do this. I know it has been asked before and no positive results have been shared.

OK, so I ran the exe through IDA Pro (a disassembler), and found it appears to be using the standard cedb.

I used phatware DB Explorer, and see a database in the PalmMsgVol file (mine has a little over 800 records).

Unfortunately, phatware doesn't dump the binary data.

Anyone have a tool which can dump cedb databases?

Alteratively, a developer with win ce development tools onhand could probably whip something together to talk to the file and just simple read and dump all records. (I don't have any ce development tools).

I'd like to note that I was incorrect, it appears cedb was done away with Post-WM5. The new format is edb. Nonetheless, it could be queried using RAPI/POOM.

Why don't you just use this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=324684

Does that work with the Palm SMS Thread app though? For example, dotfred's PIMBackup backs SMS up but only from the stock SMS app.

I ran a search for Palm, Cody, and Shogun (common names for the Palm app) on that thread and got no results.

The Palm app does not use the same database, it creates the PalmVol001, or whatever, file in the Windows directory where all the messages are stored.

Threaded SMS is the stock SMS app in WM6.1, so I bet that it would work with it. As for the Palm threaded hack, it might not. It was the only thing that looked like it might be able to do it.

Thanks for all the help! Unfortunately you're over my head, but I'm still trying to help. I found this http://www.pgadmin.org/download/ which is open source and apparently allows dumping of edb files...? does this help?
