Necessary to load Sprint customizations?
I just got a Touch for Christmas, upgrading from a 6700. I am wondering if anyone has determined if it is desirable to allow the Sprint customizations to run? With the 6700, it just added a bunch of junkware. With my Touch, I prevented the customizations from running on my last hard boot, and so far the only thing I have seen that doesn't work is Sprint TV. Is anyone aware of any other problems that might be caused by this? Are there a subset of the customization files that should be run?
Thanks! |
I researched as much as I could and found the customization worthless. You do not need to since some of the software is out of date - for example SprintTV is old and so is Live. Just download it yourself and install it. If you skip the customization though, the only thing you have to do is change the skin to the black Touch one in the Today settings. The HTC Home software thing comes default in the ROM.
I skipped it the first day I took it out of the box (actually I let it customize all the way first, then hard reset it again). No problems I am aware of as of yet (probably 2ish weeks now). |
How do you skip the customizations?

I ran for like 3 weeks with it factory setup. I hard reset a week ago and skipped the customizations. I have not found a thing missing. And my opera mini no longer hangs :-).
I don't use Oz, Live, Sprint TV, Sprint Music Store. The customize does update these a bit. But even if you want them, you need updates anyway and I think most all the updates are full kits. You can also run any Customize step by hand if you found you needed something. Fittske, to skip it, you need to Hard Reset and when it pops up a Message Box that says "3 seconds..." after the first boot. You hit the Soft reset button immediately when you see that box pop up. |
Oh right, I forgot about Oz. The customization only provides a shortcut to a website to download it. It's a cappy program and I don't use it. What does it do, chat using text messages??

Thanks
Thanks for the feedback - I appreciate the wisdom!

even if you skip the customizations, you can always install after the fact anyways by finding the cabs in /windows on the phone. i've replaced most of the sprint items with my own since i've built a couple custom roms so i personally do let the auto-customization run.

I can't seem to find them in /Windows... I thought that they were stored on the extended ROM? I wasn't aware there was an unhider available for the Touch.
