Is there going to be an update soon?
 

I want to get the touch but i've been hearing the word about the phonw not waking up when you get a call or text message. Is there any rom updates or such coming soon for this phone?

If not.... i'm gonna have to get the centro. That, I do not want to do. I've played with the touch far to long.

Any info?

Get the Centro. There is a problem with the phone not waking up, and there is no indication of a update coming in the near future.

There are rumors of a REV-A/AGPS update about the same time as the mogul updates (aka, never if sprint does the same old same old) But as far as I've seen the issues with the waking up stuff are not massively widespread, and I can't say I've even ever seen the problem on my Mogul, (which some owners complained about in the past too).

Id say get the touch, Unless you can stand the Palm OS... (I know that personally Id shoot myself using one after how much time I've spent coming to know and love the infinite tweaking abilities of WM5/6)

if you're worried about the phone not waking up from sleep, the problem seems to have decreased greatly from how bad it was in the mogul...

The update for the Touch is Q2 2008, not Q1. Mogul gets it first.

Good advice. I've heard end of June for the update and that's probably optimistic.

Figures that they are already pushing this update back again. :(

There have been some postings on here the point to GPS being available on the Touch in 1Q 2008. It was from a document on Sprint's business site. I don't think they could make GPS available without a ROM update so it should be coming 1Q 2008 (HOPEFULLY!!!).

I've never had mine not wake up. Centro is ugly...but cheaper at least.

I bought my wife the black Centro and it's nice......gotta like the keypad.

Grow up, the info that's considered semi-legit says Q2 2008 and is from an interview.

I have Never missed a call that I'm aware of on either phone, could be mistaken but nobody has ever reported so to me

I think in part the missed call issue may have to do with the low slot cycle of polling the tower that the touch/mogul is set to, and individual hardware.

I have mine set to 0, with no noticable adverse affect to my battery.

Here is the instructions for setting it....

FIX THE SLOW RINGER

To do this, you will need your MSL, which only Sprint (or your provider) can provide you.(Or use "getspc" you need to put the fixed DLL file on you phone along with "getspc")

Open up the phone app and dial ##778# (PST).
You will be asked to enter your MSL. Enter it, and you will be brought into the provisioning of your phone.
From the top left, select Modem Settings. On this page, your Slot Cycle Index (SCI) is how often your phone polls the tower for incoming calls, etc. This value is 1.28 seconds multiplied by 2^value (i.e 0=1.28 secs, 1=2.56secs) with 0 fastest, 7 slowest.


Get The Touch, you won't be happy you're already infected with the Touch bug. ;)

I don't understand how anyone can stand those small screens on the Palm stuff, I guess that's the trade off for having those easy access keys right where your screen should be.:D

I have both the Mogul and the Touch. No issues with the Touch other than missing the hard KB
I had a 700p prior to the Mogul and I have to say the Windowss OS Flaws notwithstanding is a lot easier to use, programs more widespread and tweaks alot more numerous...

The people at HTC say the same thing- that first quarter the GPS ROM update should be released. But no one knows anything for sure. I ended up just getting the BT-359 Bluetooth GPS receiver, but I'm having issues with Google Maps not keeping my location accurate. I have to turn GPS off and then back on again to get my position updated. Other than that, it was pretty easy to set up- a couple headaches and techs that had no idea what they were doing, but after playing with the settings, I got it to work- at least partly. I'm going to try a different version of Google Maps and see if that works. Also, I'm having INSANE problems with my ringers. I check vibrate for each ringer setting, and the ringer or the vibrator won't shut off! I'm getting wood everytime my damn phone rings! Any help?

my touch has never not woken up. I thinks that more of a myth, or user-error.

just got a letter yesterday from sprint Ecare, saying that they are in the works of releasing a new ROM by the end of january!

actually its not, my bro had 2. all with the same problem, of course after getting 2 POS touch he didnt want a third. hes happy with the mogul.

now, mine is somewhat less annoying,, i havent had the sleep issue, the only thing is the phone app poping up, which can be fix with a simple reg edit. and every now and then some lag when opening star.

If anyone needs to grow up its you my friend. Quit insulting members by saying "grow up" like your some kind of Father. learn how to communicate with members.:disgust:

Just wait for it!!! There are AT LEAST 2 new threads each day on every possible phone message board, about when we will get GPS and Rev A for the Touch. Does this question really need to be brought up every day (or hour for that matter)??

Speculation, whining, griping isn't going to make this new ROM come any faster.....

No one knows when we are getting it for sure!!!! So let's quit arguing about specific dates because no one knows!!!!!!
