DSOD - touch - almost daily - anyone else?

as my user name says it all, i am a fan of ppc. i have had my issues but the DSOD is the worst. i have know idea how many calls i have missed due to the phone being like this. it is driving me crazy.

i have gotten a DSOD almost every day since my 30 day return policy expired. sometimes i would get 2 or 3 DSOD's. i started friday and did a hard reset and just ran the stock apps. in fact i didn't even load the sprint tv, on demand, or IM apps. the only thing i have running is my push email (4smartphone). i dont know if something is wrong with my phne or not. it has been droped once before but that was 3 weeks before i had any problems. i think i will go and get it swaped out at the service and repair center today. what a pain.

has anyone else been getting this DSOD on there touch?

thanks, cody

I am a noob. What is a DSOD?

remlle 12-17-2007 10:48 AM

Dark Screen of Death. and I have gotten it once. It was just sitting there. I think my battery may have gotten low causing it but I'm not sure. I did a soft reset and all was better after that. let me know how that turns out for you. I'm still in my 30 day window and not sure if I want to keep the touch or the motoq9c sprint sent me both to evaluate. there are things I like about each.

codyppc 12-17-2007 10:58 AM

the things i know were NOT the problems where...

battery... i have two OEM batteries. i switch out when i get home for the afternoon shift. i really never get below 50%. the one today was with a 90% battery.

apps... nothing but stock. and most of those have never been ran.

memory card... i use this just for storage. really only access it like once a week. no apps one the card. just backup cabs and important docs.

reg edits.... the last two weeks i have been running the device with NO red edits what so ever.

thanks, cody

I've experienced it a handful of times. I'm sure the next firmware update will fix this issue.

I got tired of mine DSODing so I exchanged it within the 30 day limit. Its been a week now and no problems at all. The original phone had a manufacture date of 10/17/07, the new one has a manufacture date of 11/09/07. Maybe HTC had a few bad factory runs in October and now have it straightened out. if you do a ##786# you'll be able to view the manufacture date. I have a feeling that HTC had enough complaints they may have quitely fixed a problem in the manuacture process.

codyppc 12-17-2007 05:01 PM

just got it swaped out. manufacture date of 12/4. we'll see how it goes. mine was one of the first ones. got it the day before release. 11/3

biscoradio 12-17-2007 06:35 PM

Mine was manufactured 11/8/07 and I've been getting the DSOD more often lately (twice yesterday, but once while it was on)... My memory card also loses stuff.

I have mine since mid november. Lots of apps loaded and modified registery. Stock battery - charge every night. Not one DSOD yet!

Smile and knock wood when you say that!!!
Just Kidding..
I had the same problem and exchanged mine for a manu date of 11/25 and no issues at all...
Have it tweaked out and unlocked and maybe once in a blue moon get a lock up or slow down...

Actually, had a 6700 for 2 years prior to the Touch. Gave that to my daughter and I have never had a DSOD with that phone either. Alot of times, the problem can be traced to a corrupt file or broken registry hack. But codyppc is no rookie so I doubt that if thats the problem. Does the DSOD occur after alot of use? Overheating? Memory errors?

Get insurance :)

rycelover 12-18-2007 01:56 AM

codyppc, now that you have your new touch, please let us know if you're still experiencing any of the same problems

EtherealRemnant 12-18-2007 02:15 AM

You know... my phone did this the other day... and I don't have a damn thing stored on my memory card.

I had LOTS of issues with DSODs with the 6700 but that was only when apps were stored on the memory card.

It figures I'm now past my return period... heh.

cortez 12-18-2007 03:57 AM

mine as a mfg date of 10/7/2007, and so far, no DSOD issues (glad i have insurance!)

user13 12-18-2007 03:57 AM

Some one else posted this fix somewhere which worked for me. I had 3 DSODs the first day after doing a hard reset to take out sprint cust, i got mine (12/14) and haven't had one after doing this. You go to Settings > Power > Advanced and then you uncheck both boxes, shut off the phone, then take out the battery for 3 minutes. Turn on the phone and recheck, thats should work...

seems to happen to most after it has been setting unused for a while.

agian. i was running the device with no reg edits for a while and it still did it.

codyppc 12-19-2007 09:24 PM

3 days later i got another one. ended a phone call, turn device off via top button, waited 5 seconds, went to make another call..... DSOD

man

Pitchblack98 12-20-2007 01:24 AM

Mine had never done this that I noticed until after I read this thread. lol... Figures huh... It has happened to me twice today. Both times I noticed I had new emails from windows live after a soft reset. It seems like hotmail push mail might be causing my DSOD or a combination of the phone doing something else at the same time as a new email being pushed to my phone.

Anyone else with this problem notice anything simular after a soft reset?

Koolaid 12-20-2007 02:06 AM

Mine does this also

I received my phone on 12/16. Manufacture date of 11/20. So far this lock up has happened about 4 times to me, twice while stock, twice after doing the ICS registry hack. I have also missed a couple calls, I never heard it ring. I don't know, maybe I am going deaf....

sj808 12-20-2007 06:47 AM

its prolly happend to me like twice since I owned the phone. I have had 2-3 times of the phone shutting completely off on its own.

I know it has to do with 3rd party software for me. I got S2SUv2, Wktask, iCube, Windows Live Push running when it starts up. The few times I had the different versions of Slide2Unlock Pro v.1xxx is when I got the darkscreen of death. I never had it with A_C's version.

on the mogul, it was a habit to experience the DSOD

tangelo699 12-20-2007 10:27 AM

Has anybody experienced a DSOD with a "virgin" Touch. Stock email, stock programs, no mods what-so-ever? Also, just for grins, those of you getting DSODs...strip your phone back to basics and run for a day or two to see if it continues. Please post your results.

Now that I think about it I don't think I ever got the DSOD before I installed S2U Pro... I have since uninstalled it because I thought it was a pain to use. I am still getting the DSOD even though S2U Pro has been uninstalled. I wonder if it changed something that may be causing a conflict. I may search the registry and see if I can find and clean up any S2U stuff left over...

bengiestc 12-20-2007 02:12 PM

ive gotten the same DSOD
i uninstalled S2U and it seems to work
S2U started to lag, the slide wouldnt even work but fortunately unlocked the phone still
has any1 with the DSOD problem encountered the same problem

berardi1111 12-20-2007 05:05 PM

Not one DSOD nor freeze up as of yet- I've had the Touch since launch. Maybe your device is bad...
