Anyone having java issues (ie, Opera Mini 4), grab the Intent manager here

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=327456

I installed .1036 on my Touch and it runs Opera Mini 4 without freezing my phone (both jdeks I installed froze the device after a bit) and it seems to be faster too.

Give it a try. Its a great little JVM.

pkny 11-29-2007 11:55 PM

do i have to reinstall opera mini 4 for it to work? And or uninstall the original java program that came with the touch?

pharmdtlc 11-30-2007 11:23 AM

can you use this and sprint music together?

Rem, I installed .1036 based on your recommendation; but I'm not sure what to do after that. When it's open, I dont know how to access OM4 with it. Seems the only way I can, is to open Java where OM4 resides.

Your help would be appreciated.

When its installed, it should automatically become your default JVM.

Go to mini.opera.com and re-download the applet. It should automatically open Intent. You'll know because Intent has a logo that pops up on the java loading screen. You may need to soft reset after installation.

Thanks Rem, works perfectly now!

Hey, this is the first time I saw a pointer; really helps clicking on things without the stylus.

EtherealRemnant 12-06-2007 04:45 AM

Glad to hear it!

After testing the Intent manager some more, I removed Cloudyfa's Jdek and I will be staying with Intent from now on. Its faster, it doesn't ever crash, and everything works on it that I've tested thus far.

Ph33zy 12-06-2007 11:10 AM

How do you get the intent browser to go full screen like the Esmertec one?

rroubaix 12-06-2007 03:31 PM

Sprint Music?

Does anyone know if it will allow Sprint Music to run?

that's what I'm waiting for. I only run opera mini 4 in fullscreen using jbed. If Intent doesn't do fullscreen, then I won't bother installing it.

EtherealRemnant 12-06-2007 07:42 PM

It doesn't do full screen. But that's not a downside for me because if you're in fullscreen and Esmertec freezes, its soft-reset time...

Never had a single reset or freeze with esmertec jbed and I only use it in fullscreen.

me either.. but i did notice that intent was a lil faster... i think ill stick to esmertec for now...

FishMD 12-07-2007 12:26 AM

Use Esmertec as well and never any freeze at all. I love it. It does not work with Sprint music though to answer another person's question.

EtherealRemnant 12-07-2007 01:03 AM

See, I had it freeze a number of times. Not to mention that GMail wouldn't work with it.

*shrugs* Perfect example of YMMV, I guess.

I actually like that Intent isn't fullscreen. Gives me easy access to multi-task, which is necessary for me since this device doesn't have a Windows key.

Ph33zy 12-07-2007 01:21 AM

you can also hit the end key on ur phone to minimize the Java...

EtherealRemnant 12-07-2007 01:31 AM

right but that's one extra step. And you have to wait for the screen to refresh first. With Intent, I just tap the Start button and only have to wait for one refresh. *shrugs*

jjday7 12-10-2007 05:57 PM

any of you guys notice any problems with opera mini with intent manager where your scrolling will continue even after you have let go of the scroll key on certain web pages. I have been having this problem so I changed over to jbed and it seems a little better but does it slightly. I only found one other person with this problem. let me know if anyone else has experience this and if they think its a opera or java problem.

Indeed? I want to use opera mini but I'd like to still be able to use my Sprint Music and Sprint TV

MrOuija36 12-10-2007 06:13 PM

sprint tv isnt java.. but i doubt sprint music will work

mswlogo 12-10-2007 07:35 PM

It's strange some folks have opera mini issues with Jbed and some don't. I think I'm willing to give up full screen if Intent fixes opera mini hangs.

By the way I don't think full screen hang is unrecoverable because it's full screen. The Phone is locked up when opera mini hangs period (full screen or no full screen). Power button should allow reboot regardless of full screen and it doesn't.

Just keep Sprint Music installed in the java that came on your phone and use Intent for everything else.

mswlogo 12-10-2007 10:39 PM

I just tried Intent to avoid hanging problems with Jbed and it ran really bad.

1) No full screen (I really miss full screen)
2) Scrolls so slow sometimes I thought it was hung (this was the show stopper)
3) OPera asks to connect every time.
4) Can't exit Midlet, have to kil process.
5) Have to set focus to textbox every time you enter text

rroubaix 12-10-2007 10:44 PM

Open Sprint Music with original java

I'm a noob, how exactly do I do that?

Interesting.

I only have number 1 and 5. And that's not really a deal-breaker for me.

I don't have any other issues with it or any other applets... unless Jbed is running in the background. If I have another JVM running in the background, Intent can grind to a halt. Did you soft-reset after installing it? Opera should only ask to connect the after every soft-reset or every time you close and re-open Intent. In fact, I don't think mine even asks every time I re-open it... just when I soft rest.

EDIT: Yeah I do have to give it permission when I first open Intent... but it works fine after that.

How the heck do you exit it? There is no Exit command.

Yes I rebooted, will try again. Something is whacked.

P.S. See my Survey on trying to get to the bottom of why the mixed results from folks.

http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=13554

EtherealRemnant 12-11-2007 12:22 AM

Exit = press and hold X until it closes.

Something doesn't sound right. No other apps running in the background?

I just tested this out by pulling up Intent while I was doing a backup of the microSD via activesync and didn't even notice much of a slowdown once the applet was up and running. =/

mswlogo 12-11-2007 12:24 AM

Soft rebooted.

Prompted for connect.

Exited Opera (then killed Midlet using Quick Menu)
Started again and it prompted again.

Sure if you never exit Midlet and background it may not prompt.

Figured out what is going on with scrolling.

If you use Scrollbars it hangs (i.e. stops scrolling). If you drag pages around it works fine and can bring it back to life once the scrollbars get stuck. I like using the scrollbars on large pages. Much quicker than drag drag drag all over. I just use dragging to fine adjust a page.

EtherealRemnant 12-11-2007 12:30 AM

What's the big deal with it prompting? Its better than freezing. I'm sure it can be disabled somehow... I'll have to look. Really though... there's no reason to close it... just leave it as a background app. It doesn't affect performance at all. Intent can run very nicely in the background.

As for the scrolling, yeah I just noticed that. I usually use my finger or the dpad to scroll so I never noticed.

It seems as though if the scrollbar freezes though, a quick tap on the empty part of the scrollbar realigns it and makes it work again.

jjday7 12-11-2007 06:09 PM

anyone have any suggestions on why on my phone when using opera mini it continues to scroll up and down on pages even after I let go of the d pad. anybody with this problem please let me know and if there are any suggestions on how to make this go away. I have never had this problem with any other phone except this one. I thought maybe it was my d pad sticking but it does it going up and down and left and right
