HTC_CM_Guardian

I have the Sprint HTC Touch. Does anyone know how to get rid of HTC_CM_Guardian.exe? I am trying to change my dns servers but this keeps getting loaded to start automatically. I have searched registry and can't find anything. I have tried to rename and delete the file, but it is a read-only file and I can' t change it or delete it.

just move it to another folder

A link to it should be in \Windows\StartUp - move that link out, or delete it, soft reset, and check - should be gone for good :D

I have tried everything to move the file, and it doesn't work. Their is no link in \Windows\Startup folder like their was in the mogul. This is a mystery to me.....

Try installing Sk Tools or MemMaid, terminate the running process, and then move it.

Or use either app to disable it from startup.

I can terminate the process, but it won't let me move it. The error says it is in ROM memory. poutlook is the only thing listed at startup. They must have changed the way that this is loaded into the OS to retain the Sprint network settings.

Same issue. It is definitely in ROM. Sneaky bastards. Looks like we will have to wait for an altered ROM to take control back on DNS servers.

You do not have to "get rid of it".
If you want to change your DNS server settings and have them stick, just create a new connection. Call it whatever you want, have it dial
#777, same settings as Sprint....
Select the new one as your connection and it will stick.

Ugh, yeah a different connection will work.

You could probably make a mortscript that kills the process, and put that script in your startup folder :D

HTC_CM_Guardian.exe is the problem... we need a "do nothing" exe - rename that to HTC_CM_Guardian.exe, copy it into \Windows, and you should be good to go.

Ahhhh

Interesting find over at xda. Can you check with a registry editor to see what is at
HKLM/init

You might find an entry there for the bad boy - if so, you can delete the key, and then do the save registry entry restart dance (exit reg editor to today screen, count to 5, power off, power on, count to 5, power off, on... cross fingers, soft reset)

It should then trouble you no more.
