How to transform a HTC Vogue in Media Player?
Strange? Quite yes!
I have a HTC Vogue (Telus HTC Touch - CDMA) that I just replaced with an Iphone. But this old phone is still a good device! So I want to give it to a friend I have in a country with no CDMA network. He can use it as a Media Player with S2P, Windows Media Player, HTC Audio Manager or Nitrogen. I have some questions... . Is there a way to remove the phone part to get that memory free (the CDMA phone network is not available...)? . Which version of WM would you recommend me? . Is there a custom ROM somewhere for this purpose? I tried some variants with PPCk-BuildOS but the phone part is always there. Thank you very much for your help. Yves |

That way when you restart the device the radio stays off and doesn't get loaded into memory. You can do this by going to commanager and selecting it or you can just hold down the red end key until the radio turns off. It should say phone off and the radio indicator should change to an x. It will stay that way until you change it. I suggest you use WinMo 6.1 simply because it is lighter and takes less memory to run. 6.5 is prettier in some respects and can be more finger friendly but only in the OS and not necessarily in the apps themselves. I don't know if there are any ROMs made for this purpose only. The nice thing about the Vogue is it is so customizable that you can do whatever you want with it so I'm pretty sure you won't have trouble setting it up like you want. I suggest S2P, Nitrogen, CorePlayer, and Windows Mobile Media Center for applications. WMMC can be found on xda. It will integrate with Windows Media Player and makes things more finger friendly for playing music and videos. Good Luck!! |

You're probably not going to be able to take out the phone part.
You can however take out 99% of the items in the rom that are not needed and just have a basic today screen. For this I'd recommend either a 6.5 rom, or it would probably be better for a 6.1 if it's just a media player. It won't be as eye pleasing, but it'll do the job for sure. |

Why not get a GSM version your friend can use? It even comes with Wifi... Streaming music could be better than SD memory music... ;)

That'd require buying a new phone :-p
I'd go with a 6.1 generic, and nitrogen. Or you could flash on android and go that way too would be less mem used but require tweaking. |

That's what I'm doing with my Sprint Touch (Vogue) making it Android...right now looking for a way to flash even WM5 if available for this model and autorun HaRET's DEFAULT.TXT without pressing "RUN"...

Why not just go for the flashable version DZO released a while ago? No fussing with the autorun then and no fussing with have Windows mobile on there at all. |

I agree with horndoctor, use the stock WinMo 6.1 in airplane mode, and put a shortcut to the player of your friend's choice into the \Windows\StartUp folder. If the player can be set to Full Screen mode, then turning Vogue on will go straight to a full screen player - no phone stuff - not even any PPC or PDA stuff like top info bar or bottom softkeys. I use PocketPlayer in full screen with my custom skin:

Wow, I didn't know they did a ROM for the Vogue. Will search for it! Thank you so much!
