Alltel HTC Touch to Metro PCS

Hello all:

I have a Vogue which was originally on Alltel (now Verizon). Previous to this phone, I had a Mogul from Sprint with custom ROM. The concept isn't foreign to me. My contract with Verizon is finally up, and I'm thinking about switching to Metro PCS. Here are the versions I currently have:

ROM: 3.10.671.1
Radio: 3.42.30

From what I read, I generally understand the concept that I should have Metro PCS flash my phone, which will wipe out Internet, MMS, and GPS. At that point, I would unlock the phone, load custom ROM, and adjust the settings for Internet. Am I correct?

Here are some additional questions:

1) Which Metro PCS plan should I get since I will actually be using data? (even though they say it will be voice and text only)

2) Will I ever get back the GPS functionality?

3) Which custom ROM is suggested?

I appreciate any help, and look forward to your responses.

Take a look at the Metro forum @ HoFo http://howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1495585 there are some great answers there.

Thanks for the reply. I did actually read that article, and it's very helpful, but it doesn't really answer the questions I have asked in this post.

Ok to answer the first ? Yes you will need a Metro flash and yes it will render all the WAP, MMS, GPS setting unusable. Yes you will need to run the 2.31 unlocker and install a custom ROM and make the correct setting.

As for the plan choose one that has data included and anything else you want/need.

When it comes to ROMs it's all personal taste do some experimenting, but also keep in mind that most are not preconfigured for Metro and will require a carrier cab.

I agree with whitey10tc.
I think howard forums is probably your best bet for MetroPCS. They have a forum dedicated to that carrier and I believe there are carrier specific ROMs for Metro. I suggest you do a lot of reading over there and ask users over there about what plans they use. I would think gps has been figured out by now.
Here is a link to the Metro Forum on Howard Forums:

Good Luck! :)

Thanks for your replies. I went to local Metro store today and their computer couldn't see my phone. They sent me to another store, who told me I would have to leave the phone with them until the end of the day. Wow! This is ridiculous!

I just got my Vogue flashed at the local Metro store, and now ActiveSync doesn't work. I would like to unlock the phone, and then flash a custom ROM, but if my PC doesn't recognize the phone....

What can I do to fix this situation?

Did it connect before?

Uninstall active sync and reinstall.

Re: Alltel HTC Touch to Metro PCS

Thanks Whitey. Yes, it did connect before. I should also mention that it's actually Windows Mobile Device Center on Windows 7.

Does that make any difference?

Wirelessly posted (htc Vogue: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows CE; IEMobile 7.11) Sprint MP6950SP)

If that is the case then don't install activesync use wmdc.
If you have the cd that comes with the phone in the box then use it to reinstall WMDC. You could also try deleteing the partnership on your pc and vogue and then recreating the partnership. :dontknow:
