Ok, I am a complete newbie hear so I will give you the lowdown on what I am trying to do.

From what I gather from other posts....the new VX6900's for verizon are shipping with the Official update pre-loaded on the phone.

Also, the Valhalla cab fix is no longer working with Verizon but is working with Telus?

Basically I am getting this new VX6900 tommorrow because I flashed to the Altell ROM and accidentally let customizations run. After that I tried to install NFSFAN 6.5 ROM which worked.

I then called verizon tech support because *228 did not work. The tech was able to get calls working but no data via EPTS. I am thinking that the alltel ROM screwed up everything, regardless I flash to Official Update for 6.1 and tried that but still no go for programming. So the tech is sending out the new unit.

Since I am getting a new unit this is the best time to get GPS or AGPS working for this handset. I have been all over PPCG and xda-dev on this issue. It seams that the valhalla cab fix no longer works for APGS unless you use Telus? Allot of these posts are old so I wanted some feedback from anyone who is currently able to run GPS or AGPS on the 6.1 radio 3.77.78 unit.

As far as ROM's go I don't want to flash because I am running android 1.6 donut from my SD card and it works awesome! I updated Google Maps with Navi and am trying to just get GPS locks in that manner.

Any help would be awesome!

If that does not work for you then I would say use Pdaphonejunkie's standalone gps guide for standalone non-agps here:

I saw that post but had a couple of questions about the process.

If the new phone comes with the update, Will it run customizations when I power on? If so can I just soft reset before the customizations and bypass the GPS lockdown?

Or do the customizations program the phone so I can activate it via *228?

I do have another phone (a razor XE) so I can activate and deactivate online like in the post.

Really what I want to do is get GPS working without having to flash the phone.

When you get it from Verizon it will be locked already. :( I don't think you have a choice. You could try a hard reset and then soft reset before customizations run and see if that works but I doubt that it will help since it should already be locked down. :(

just flash back to stock rom. in pdaj's post... you need to flash a 1.xx radio, so its not worth it to get it running anyway.

what radio are you using? I thought in that post you are able to update to the most current 3.37.78?

Also....I think I am clear on the process..basically once I get the phone

-- unlock it with cokeman .40

-- Install the 6.0 ROM

-- Unlock with Cokeman 2.37

-- Install 6.1 Official ROM - Soft Reset at Customizations....

-- Install Custom Rom (NFSFAN or Other)

-- Enable Location

-- Com 4, Port (blank) Baud (4800) Managed by windows....

Do I need to do any cab instalation other than the NFSFAN provisioning cab? And will I be able to activate the phone with the *228 or My Verizon?

I know it seems like I am repeating allot of what is being told but I already bricked one phone and do not want to brick another.....

yeah... trust me youwon't brick it. it just takes a boatload of time.
lol, flashing a 1.xx radio is just the beginning. currently i have a 3.42.3(?) radio.

Aparently, you don't want Assisted gps so if that is what you want then just follow the steps in PDAPhoneJunkie's Standalone gps thread. Or you can just ignore what I posted in this post like you did in the previous post I made. :???:

It's not that I don't want aGPS, I just read a bunch of older posts stating that Verizon had put a block on the server and that everyone who had been running the Valhalla Cab work around the service stopped working in March.

I am just trying to get clarification on what IS working now. The other useful post I found over at xda was this one:

I was just checking to see if anyone over here was able to do the update and if so did they have any problems after the update.
