Hey gang,
Not sure what the changes are, but they just released a new Bell ROM.

Re: New Bell ROM 3.09.666.1 released 8/23

does anyone know how is this different than the last bell update? is it only the version number that was fixed? anyone tried the last bell rom and actually used it for some time? I flashed the last one but right after flashed to a kitchen rom. If there's something in here that makes it worthwhile I may try it out.

We need the new radio.

Re: New Bell ROM 3.09.666.1 released 8/23

As ka911 said, at the boot, you only see 3.09. From Device infos, it's 3.09.666.1.

I just flashed and tried GoogleMaps and so far GPS seems to be the same as with the leaked ROm...

I'll update later..

I have both installations, and all the files are identical (like those Bell's ppst.cab etc..)
the only difference in in the VOGUIMG.nbh, that evidently contains new
ROM, and it is about 300 kB longer in the newestr version..

does anyone know any utility to
extract/view files/parts in that .nbh file?

Re: New Bell ROM 3.09.666.1 released 8/23

they removed 666... as some BM phones were reportedly ooozing blood from the microsd and stylus slot... i think its been patched though, so no worries

I installed it about an hour ago. Not really any different then before. Still the best ROM I've ever put on my Touch though.

Hi everybody,

I got my Bell Touch at the end of July and updated the stock ROM with the new stock ROM 3.08.666_1 a few week ago. When I do a soft reset, on the black screen on the bottom right of the screen it shows 3.09.66.1, but the device properties show 3.08.66.1 once WM is loaded. What are you guys showing at soft boot and then Device Properties?

It does it for everybody. It was an unofficial official ROm :)
The true official is now on HTC page and fixes this "problem"

I don't think it's broken, it just is not available yet. If you have a fun bundle with the sirius radio included, we with WM devices, can't access it yet. I think it is going to be for "TV Clips" and "Sirius radio" (the 20 pre selected chanels)

this might be a stupid question but whats with the other update on that page?

Re: New Bell ROM 3.09.666.1 released 8/23

The other ROM update was an really early fix for bluetooth issue. Don't see why they just don't remove it. Maybe it's on there for folks that don't want the GPS, Win6.1, etc. features.

I also noticed with this ROM upgrade that the Rev.A isn't enabled for me yet (via the ##778# viewing option).

hipocrazy 08-24-2008 03:05 PM

Re: New Bell ROM 3.09.666.1 released 8/23

viewing through ##778# shows only a #777 for me as well....was hoping for Rev a this time around more than the GPS.....ah well.

Re: New Bell ROM 3.09.666.1 released 8/23

Since we're still not sure we're on Rev A yet .. .i've been taking benchmark speedtest at various places i've been...
from Montreal to the Laurentians Up to Saint Agathe des Monts... and the best I can get was 850 kbps on 4 signal bars... I couldnt get a 4 signal in Montreal for some reason... may be i was far from the towers but since I'm downtown, I was expecting the signal to be strong...

If i was getting a constant 850 i would be happy but at 400 sometimes down to 100... this makes the browsing speed unacceptable... I just hope this ISNT the rev A speed we are all paying... may be a better ROM will make the speed more like rev A standard speed!

Again, I've never used any custom roms... i've only flashed once to the 3.08 BELL rom once! I'm not even gonna bother with 3.09 unless someone tells me that there is a speed improvement...

I wonder how those BELL users who used CUSTOM ROMS are getting as speed... Is it a fact that using a CUSTOM rom like NFSFAN will get the speed improvement ? If not I'm not gonna bother voiding the warranty!

let me know

Your browsing speed will vary due to many variables... I KNOW I have RevA working, and my download speeds vary depending on where I am and the time of day, etc (And I travel all over the place) Custom ROMs use the latest software, tweaked to give you the best performance possible due to the armies of individuals staying up all night testing them. What is produced here through this collaborative effort is amazing. The talent here is huge. All you have to do is browse through the site and pick the ROM that most suits you... Pretty damn cool.
Custom ROMs do indeed give you increased usability. If you're worried about voiding the warranty, if you need to deal with your service provider, just flash it back to an official ROM before you take it in. You'd want to do this anyway to erase any personal data. I'm with Sprint, not Bell, and my custom ROM is WAY faster and more useable than the stock ROMs out there.
Just my 2 cents...

Is anyone else having issues with this ROM Update?
I can't even update it from the bone-stock ROM.
It gives me an error stating that this RUU isn't a valid Pocket PC Application.

I only want it for the GPS support. Unless someone knows of a way that i can get the GPS working, or if there is some Cell Tower Triangulation software that the phone is compatible with.
If anyone knows anything i'd greatly appreciate it.

Support isn't really giving much SUPPORT either..hahahaha.

BTW, it's an HTC Touch (Bell)

Thx

it should be straightforward..
1. Go to this page: http://www.htc.com/us/SupportDownloa...cat=2&dl_id=98
2. Download the exe at the bottom of the page
3. Read this step by step instruction http://www.htc.com/uploadedFiles/Com...structions.pdf
4. And run the exe, while having the instructions opened...
5. That's pretty much it...

The GPSNan icon is different in the newer 3.09.666.1 than in the previous 3.08.666.1 but the app boots up the same.

I have a new Alltel Touch, I "lost" my old one as far as Alltel is concerned. I tried to flash this rom to get the updated radio and I get an "Invalid Vendor ID" error. I unlocked the phone first using Cokeman's unlocker, what am I doing wrong? I reflashed back to the stock Alltel rom with no problem. Is there anyway I can get the updated radio without flashing to this rom? Thanks for any feedback and God bless, Phil.

By "It gives me an error stating that this RUU isn't a valid Pocket PC Application." you mean that you're trying to run the Ruu exe from your Touch itself? Sorry man, it's a Windows program. Just have your phone connected via Activesync and run the RUU on your computer.

Watch out for those tethering charges unless you're using PDANet.

As far as the dropping from EV to 1x, right around when the previous rom came out I know Bell was having tower issues, I think it was just coincidental that the other rom came out around the same time. Not sure about dropped calls though, I haven't noticed anything myself.

Forget that, I just installed it and does not have the new logo.

But this ROM is really good! (But really similar to the 3.0)

I would really like to be able to remove the Large Title Bar! Any Ideas?
